Gibson spent all that time and money sueing PRS over their single cut guitar that was never billed to be anything but a single cut PRS....I dont know why companies dont go after the rip off COmpanies billing their product as the real thing

It's because PRS were/are directly taking Gibsons customers. The singlecut only had a passing resemblance to a LP at best. Gibson would have seen people prepared to pay £2K+ for a PRS as gibson customers lost. They guy who's going to chance his arm on a £300 chinese knockoff isnt going to buy a LP. PRS are much more of a direct threat, cost, country of origin are the same. Quality is miles above.

Besides which you could prosecute the Chinese company making these guitars. It wouldnt change a thing, you may even make things worse. Close one factory down and 3 more will pop up, theres profits behind em now and business savvy. It would be natural for em to use that opportunity to expand.

Bring em on I say. Anything that raises quality and lowers price is a good thing.

That’s very true Niki….I had not thought about it along those lines… I guess they needed to attack the situation form the best angle they could to protect their investment and potential customers. .. counter fitters tick me off all the same because they end up costing us all extra money in the long run, and sights like Ebay help perpetuate this by making them more accessible and targeting those who don’t know any better or just want to save a buck.

Cheers
Bill

SBLS no I never played an Epi Les Paul. I am not swift at all when it comes to Gibson's as I never owned one in my life. I used to borrow a good friends Silver Burst every now and then for a month and also a red one, but this was well before the fakes appeared so I was not dissecting every part of the guitar. This whole disaster is going to hurt the used market in a big way after enough guys get burnt. I also think that everyone of us here should call Paypal and tell them if they are going to support these fakes by letting the companies that sell them use Paypal we will never use it again. I could post that on a lot of forums and have the boards lighting up like the Empire State building that maybe they would stop as that would be a start. If someone wants to post it here go ahead or in a few days I will then. But if you make them lose Paypal believe me a lot of people would be reluctant to send a check or give a credit card to a business like that, as they would not have the blanket of being covered if they got beat.

Straycat the Epi's are very close to the Gibson's, ripitup555 wrote "Newer ones China, Korea before that I think."If some one wanted an LP from China that would be the way to go, I feel bad for the people buying 'fake' guitars on e-bay and your paypal idea would probably work in helping to stop sales of fake guitars, I don't think any of those people could fool you though as if you posted photos here the Bros would alert you for sure.
