Your not going to keep up in a band situation with it but for around the house, a 5 watt (TUBE) amp is pretty friggin loud Yes

More than loud enough for home use. It's very easy to upset the neighbours with a 5 watt amp.

As everyone's said... yes, 5W is loud. Enough so that you probably won't get to hear your amp's natural breakup except by special arrangement with anybody living nearby (or waiting until they're out). If you need clean headroom and you're playing with a drummer, 5W will probably not be enough... but for home use, it's ample. So I have found, at any rate. I use an attenuator on my 5W amp.

I rehearse with a 74 Fender Champ in a band situation Drums, Bassist, Harp player, another Guitarist and sometimes a Keyboardist. If you play like professionals and respect the mix it works pretty well. I don't play with the Champ outside the rehearsal space.

If its just for home use you can get away with less than 5 watts. Not as much clean head room but for natural break up the lower the wattage probably the better.

I havnt, but be cool to build yer own and get a good amp cheaper. Just built 2 pedals, recommend it.

I have a Gibson Les Paul jr. GA-5. It is incredible in both tone and volume.

Little Vox AC4TV - 4watt class A, for the house I'm on the 1/4 w setting, that's good enough and loud enough for me

The Vox AC4TV is a loud little sound demon for the house but if it was going to be my only amp I'd opt for a 15W like the Blues Jr. or even the Vox Pathfinder R which for about $125 is a great bargain.Vox also makes some great little 5 and 10 W modelling amps that can even power a 4/12 cab while producing realistic amp models and great effects for around $150.

Try out a a Fender vibro champ xd or a super champ. I have the vibro and love it for around the house or on the deck.

A 5watt on a 4x12 that might be a bit small on the amp a 2x12 might be better but a 5 watt for the house if it is a name brand amp you should have enought volume and good sound

Blackheart Little Giant: awesome sound for a 5 watt output amp

Blackheart Handsome Devil: awesome sound and switchable 7 or 15 watt output

Hey, I'm looking at getting a new amp and I'm just wondering if a 5 watt is very loud. It's just for playing around the house, but I like to put the volume nice and loud.

Thanks in advance.

The louder the better, and yes my old guitar teacher has one an there pretty loud.
