Hello, I own a Highway One HSS Strat and now I want to finally own a second guitar.....A Telecaster :D

I played the Highway One Tele and its good, nothing special, so I played the American Standard and it sound allot better but the maple version had me reaching for the tone control. It was Bright rather than Twang.

Last guitar I played was a MIM 50s Roadworn and this sounded better than any of them! If felt better too and had the Twang of a Tele. Are the MIMs as good qaulity?? I live in Australia so I pay big bucks for guitars, almost twice as much as the rest of the world!

And I want the real deal, nothing wrong with MIM but if I pay top dollar I want MIA, what do you guys think? Anyone own a MIM 50s roadworn or any other teles I should check out?

I prefer the roadworn to the American Special, but in the same price range I would suggest the MIM Baja Tele...truly an awesome guitar.

Can you get Japanese Fender's in your part of the world? I think most players would tell you that the build quaility is excellent.

I have a standard 06 MIM Tele and it has a simply great sound and is very comfortable to play.

Mate look for a good Baja Telecaster. Their MIM, but I cant see anything else in the catalogue with the features it has.
Mine took a good bit of work to get it right (no more than my 50th anni deluxe strat though). It's a dream now, I cant be without it, it's my go to guitar.

One of the best buys I've ever made.

My advice is to not buy any guitar unless you have personally played it and compared it to others at the same time and through the same amp. Just too many models and variations out there.

When I wanted to add a Tele to my collection I tried every MIM and MIA model the store had and even decided, for laughs (since it was at least twice as expensive as all the others), to try the used Fender Custom Shop Relic Tele. Well, that Custom Shop Tele stood out like night and day from the others and "sang" to me. I left without buying because of the cost factor but returned 3 days later to buy it. I'm finally over the shock of the cost, but excited about the sound every time I play it. I even came to love the "Heavy Relic" look which I had always scoffed at before. My point is don't settle....the right guitar will speak to you when you find it.

A lot has to do with set up also. On a Tele if you want to lose the twang and go for a more rock sound lower the bridge pup. It will make all the difference in the world.

You might consider the Hwy 1 Texas Tele. Made in USA. Similar to a 52 reissue. $899 online. You might find it cheaper. I just ordered one for $809 from Music123. Good neck, ash body, hot vintage pickups. Good hunting! :)

Hey great advice here, the Baja looks good but I can't find a retailer that has them anywhere.

I played the American Special and another Maple American standard, the Special did not have the same sound quality IMO. It amazes me how every guitar feels so different.

Both guitars look the same except they feel and play so different, the Special did not suit my playing, and even though the Standard felt better it still did not feel as good as the 50s Roadworn.

I would love to do what some of you guys did and put no price limit on a guitar but it would take me a loooong time to save for the cost of a relic or custom. especially down under.

Another guitar I played was a 50th aniversery MIJ tele which was quite nice, the bridge pup sounded a little thin though but if felt really good. It had standard size frets which I found easier to play than Jumbo ones and it was black with gold hardware.

Well I think I might play a couple of MIM roadworn 50s up against a rosewood MIA standard cause that is really all in my budget right now. There are a few others that are over my budget but I just don't want something that will exeed my Strat, I want the same quality/sound within the same price range as my Strat so I play both guitars equally.

Anyway I will have another play of some more Teles tommorrow :D
