Once, we got to the gig about an hour and a half away, and the drummer had forgot to bring his cymbals. That was a "quiet" evening.
Another time the same drummer forgot to bring his snare. Good thing there was a spare drum kit, tho junky, in storage at the bar.
Playing a gig out in the middle of no where, 9 oclock at night, and the other guitar player didn't bring any 9 volt batteries for his pedals.
The same thing happened to our bass player with a bass with active electronics. No batterires, no sound.

I'll think of more later.

I used to forget things like picks, and I had to go finger style on a couple of gigs. Once I forgot my entire pedal board and I had to play the gig with nothing but my guitar going into the amp. Luckily the other guitarist in the band was able to take care of the distortion on some of the heavier rockin' songs.

once had the mic but no stand at a house party. found an umbrella base, a painter's roller extension handle and a coat hanger in the garage there and manufactured one on the spot. quite a site, but worked the whole afternoon and into the evening.
i've eliminated the battery issue with my one spot. i hate buying batteries. none of my guitars (and i own 6) need a power supply.

Not really forgot but maybe forgot to ask?

New Year's Eve, about 3 years ago, had a rented board while ours was out for a repair, sound check around 8pm and all's good. Turn it on at 10pm to start and nothing, the fuse had blown on the board-no power/no sound. So I improvised and wrapped the fuse with alum foil and stuffed it back in. That board got pretty hot and we shut it down at breaks but made it through the night.

Always ask about fuses if it's not your gear was our lesson from that one.

And same band, we packed up after a gig, and for different reasons we had 3 or 4 vehicles there. I had my truck and pulled the trailer. We met up at our practice room to unload and realized that no one had brought the singer back with them.... ....yep, left his drunk $@! at the bar. That was an eye opener for us and him, he wasn't around long after that. I lost the coin flip and had to go back to get him, about 1/2 hour away.

This evening I forgot my wah pedal, I was 40 miles from home. No biggie, just played without it. Got four of the things, how did I forget one.

The worst was when I forgot my spare guitar and broke a string right at the end of the second to last song. The support band kindly leant me a guitar to play our final number. But the strap had been packed away with their drummers gear and he'd left. So I played the last number kneeling, during the solo the singer put a beertowel over my head and detuned the guitar as I was playing. Just to turn the comedy into a utter farce.

I tend to forget my capo. It means the evening becomes a lot more interesting as I try to scrounge a pencil and some elastic bands or simply play without.

My little brother played drums in a pretty good jazz band for awhile, but spent one gig playing with wooden spoons from the bar's kitchen after he forgot his drumsticks.

not really a big thing, but i ALWAYS forget guitar stands. i lean it up against my amp and sit like a hawk eyeballing it to make sure it doesn't fall over.
i don't have extra fuses or strings. it's posts like this one that help all of us be more prepared.
this is weird. when i go hunting and fishing, i have spare everything. yes, over the top, spare everything.

This didn't happen to me but here goes...

I was at a concert sponsored by a local radio station and local Jack Daniels importer. There where lot of local bands on the list, one of them was this (in my opinion) overhyped hipster band. Any way half way through their set one of their guitarplayer breaks a string and doesn't have an extra. So the band thinks that the smart move is to send a buddy of theirs to the guitarplayer home and fetch some strings which resulted in the band standing on stage and not playing anything and then we got to see and hear the guitar player re-string and then tune the guitar, wich in all took about an hour.
The sad thing is that this band always stopped between the songs for 10-15 minutes to retune their intruments because their songs all had diffrent sounds. In short the most boring concert band of all time.

Once upon a time the band I was in got a gig on one of the Gulf Islands in BC. We had a six piece and usually travelled in two vehicles my car and a van. This island only had three ferries per day. Any who we forgot our bass player, I thought he was in the van and they thought he was with me.

We got most of the way to gig and realised we hadn't picked up Syd..

We just thought, "ah well - no worries.."

Dave G - (lead guitar and vocals)
