Had fun competing at the Boston G.C store. Judges said talent was the best they seen at that location. Judges and others said my tone and licks, were real good. I just need some stage presence. I'll have to try and work on that, don't know why I have a hard time, hamming it up on stage. One judge pulled me aside, and told me I have a real good feel for the blues. Said if I could move around more and interact with the crowd, I'll have a better shot next year. Good luck Tex !!! :D

Well that's cool. :) Third place in this case is sort of a bummer, but music is always subjective anyway. And actually, placing third is what the judges said was one of the best group of people they'd seen is really, really good!

I'm not really a natural showman either, I almost get annoyed at people who are. I have improved over last year, but that's probably just because I'm a lot more comfortable playing in front of people.

As simple as it seems, just to smile and look like you're having fun while playing is not that easy...but it can be done without looking too cheezy.

Well, there's a youtube video posted of me now (with permission this time around lol). I kind of screwed up the turnarounds and I was a lot sloppier than I am when I'm relaxed, but it was still fun anyway. It's only a video of the last half (my Dad thought his camera would work, it didn't so a friend filmed it).

Yeah, maybe soon?

Getting back on topic though, it bugs me to walk into a club and see the band on stage playing, and they just seem to be watching their shoelaces
instead of showing how they feel when they're playing.

Show some emotion like this -

Rebecca, I know you are using your guitar but are you using your Fender VM or does the store supply the amplification? I sure like your tone!! 8)

Thanks, I spent several hours fretting over the tone. I finally figured out something I really liked and wrote down the settings. I had to use the store's Fender Twin Reverb. I practiced at home with my VM because I thought that it would have a similar tone to the Twin Reverb and I was right, it did. The main difference is that the Twin Reverb has a knob to control the mids.

I used my Screamin' Eagle (basically a tubescreamer, but I used the clean boost setting) and my Jekyll and Hyde for distortion. I should have kept them both on the entire time, but I just kicked in with the Jekyll and Hyde for the solo.
