i am going to QUIT smoking by my birthday on the 31st of may. with my savings i am going to purchase an acoustic/electric. my question is, does anyone have any tips with a guitar that will work thru a standard tube amp? i know feedback is an issue but i can't afford another amp yet. any tips or advice will be appreciated. anyone else had this situation and what did you do to get it to work?
oh yes, i'm quittin' and gettin' a new axe. i have 2 co-workers that are joining in this battle over nicotine. i can and will do it. a new axe will be a reward.

If you smoke a pack a day say at about $4.50 per pack, and you bank the "daily" rate. At 6 months, you should have $801.00 and after 1 year that would equal $1602.00 I would think you could easely buy both... Good Luck, I quit almost 10 years ago and have never looked back. Do this for the gear yes, but do it for you 1st!

jeebus,
I just bought a Larrivee D-03RE acoustic/electric and it has an LR Baggs pickup on board. Here's a description of how it works from the Larrivee website. Check it out if you like.

http://www.larrivee.com/instruments/acoustics/D03RE.php

'LR Baggs Element Notch System

The Element Notch System is a single source preamp which utilizes the L.R. Baggs under saddle transducer (Called the 'Element'). This pickup system features a phase inversion control switch which can dramatically reduce feedback in troublesome locations. There is a Narrow-Band "Notch" Filter on the preamp. The Notch filter works by cutting out a particular frequency which may be causing the feedback - The frequency is user selectable via an onboard knob. Other companies which use a notch filter use a wide-band filter which can dramatically effect the sound. This system is designed to use a very narrow frequency which has the absolute minimum impact on audio quality - Much to the pleasure of audiophiles everywhere! There are also Bass, Mid-Range, and Treble control sliders on board the pre-amp. The preamp also has the battery compartment on-board (accessible by lightly pressing on the preamp). This means that batteries can be changed in 10 seconds without de-stringing the instrument. This pickup system is only available on our -03 product line. Introduced January 2006."
