Not the playing job or night gig, I mean the job you have that pays the bills, pays for your toys, and supports a family. I ask because my wife had worked at Sears for 21 years in management, and a couple of months ago they told her that her department numbers had to come up. Well they didn't come up as much as they needed to see, so they've let her go. Twenty years on the job, giving up weekends and holidays, and this was her reward.
So, how long have you been at your job?

Five years. And very blessed that I have survived three waves of Layoffs due to the economic downturn.

I love my job... hope to retire from this place.

Looking around though, there isn't many senior citizens so that's a little discouraging.

I have been retired/disabled for 10 years. Does that count?

My current job (retired) I have been doing since last November 1. Prior to that, I was at General Electric Aircraft Engines for over 36 years. I am 56 years old. 8)

For me, this is day 4. I've been on unemployment for over 19 months. No calls... no interviews and a lot of email rejections. I'm 57, by the way. And then, out of the blue I get a call. Now, in the past few days every company that I've applied to in the past 2 weeks are calling me. And I know why. Companies are now getting a tax break if they hire someone who's been out for a long time. I had to fill out a questionaire for qualification. On the form it said that it had no affect on my employment either way. So, that's not an issue... but, I'll bet it was my "foot in the door".

All I can say is I hate to hear about people losing their jobs. Especially when a person sacrifices time with their families to try and get ahead. I have worked in a 24/7 data center for over 20 years and I worked weekends and holidays on the graveyard shift. They automated my job... what they couldn't automate they sent to India and I was thrown away like an old tissue.

I wish your wife luck. I know it won't make her feel any better, but hang in there. Maybe she'll find something in her field and it'll be a step up. Or, maybe she'll have to start over in something different. Maybe with her experience and skill set she won't have to wait as long as I did.

Now I have to find a part time job to fill in the gap...

My current job: Less than a year -- It is a good well-paying job, and I thank my lucky stars for it. I had to relocate from Austin, TX to Pittsburgh, but actually the change is for the better ... and they picked up the expense to move.

My last job: 15 years -- but they did give me a healthy "package" when I was let go.

5 years at my current school, 3 years at another school.

Masterhacker, as a teacher, I need to correct your spelling: currEnt, not currant.
