Any suggestions for a good acoustic amp that coast less than $200. I am borrowing a Fender Acoustasonic 30 and I really like it, but it is way out of my price range for now. I would want something 15w or less, 5w would actually be fine since I am just going to use it to play around the house. Any suggestions?

Hi BCB: just out of friendly curiosity, why do you want an acoustic amp for playing around the house? Want to share your acoustic workout with the neighbors, is that it?

For what it's worth, I don't think there is such a thing as a good acoustic amp for the price you describe. And given the alternatives, live and at home, I don't really see the point of a "least bad" acoustic amp.

Maybe I'm overlooking something though...

Hi again: just because an acoustic is an electro doesn't mean that it has to be plugged in.

The reason good acoustic amps are expensive is because they have a tough job to do. They are trying to reproduce in a bigger room as closely as possible the sound the guitar makes unplugged. But unless you live in an aircraft hanger then around the home the guitar is already doing that for itself more perfectly than any amp can ever achieve.

To be fair, these days there is a vogue for putting acoustics through things like chorus and delay effects. So that would be one reason for hooking it up. And if you need to play in a noisy bar that has no PA, well that's another.

But just around the home I'd want to enjoy the sound of the guitar for what it is, and be glad not to have cables trailing around the place.

Please don't mistake my tone. I'm not at all trying to be snitty here: I'm just out to understand the issue you're addressing.

I have the Ibanez Troubadour T35 and it is a great acoustic amp for around $250. You could always look for good used one or just play it thru your reg amp.

I've seen SCXDs for $199 used; in fact I think there's one or more on the Musician's Friend used gear sale but won't swear to that.

I've used the acoustic setting with my Breedlove C25 (internal L.R. Baggs) and with an Epi MasterBilt with a Fishman Neo-D. In either case, the results are reasonable though certainly not like an amp built ground up with acoustic only in mind. Given your price limit, it would work though.

However, if you're talking about the guitar + vocal combos, I can't think of anything in that class in your range. There you'd probably have to look for a higher end model with some wear on it.
