try telling your school guidance counsler, that would be best. they deal with this kinda stuff daily, thats why schools have guidance counslers, to help kids with problems.

School Principle or Vice-Principle would be my next choices.

I didn't Lose my mind, I traded it for this guitar.

I knew a kid a long time ago that did that and it led to drugs and he got in a bad accident and is permently messed up. If this guy is your friend you NEED to take care of this asap, even if he gets super mad at you. Being supportive and trying to help him yourself is not an option. Good call reaching out to everyone here but the real good call will you be getting you bro some help.

Telling a medical professional (your doctor if possible, should your parents be included? they may have to be told so that you may be able to talk with your family doctor about it.)

Ive dealt with mental health issues since I was 6 due to mum and her friends, My advice to you is that you do as everyone else says and tell somebody.
But this may change very little...BUT DO IT!
If this friend thinks of you highly and you ARE CONFIDENT then sit him down examine his cuts,if they are shallow like if a cat scratches you but in number then you need to consider telling him straight to cut this $@!& out noone will respect him afterwards.
This will sound harsh to anyone reading this but Currently in England roughly 40% have experience self harming even myself.
You say his mother doesnt care? You'll need to find him an outlet to cope with this... Does he play guitar?
Teach him!

GO ME You do not state your age but I would figure you are maybe a year or two older than your friend. I also can sense he looks up to you because if he was dabbling in drugs and you got him to stop he looks up to you and respects what you have to say. I would sit him down and talk to him about the self mutilation and that you do not like it and if he is compulsive to do it that you are going to help him STOP because you CARE. Then seek out an adult right away and also by going this route you did not betray his trust which is a big issue here, as he seems like he feels that he can tell you anything. The boy is screaming out for help and attention since it seems no one at home seems to care.Just let him know you care to much for him to see him doing this to himself .
