That's me sorted til the end of June with guitar playing wonderment!

Got all my tickets now it begins with:

Saturday 15th May: Peter Green and Friends @ Belfast's Spring & Airbrake

11th - 13th June: Download Festival @ Donington: AC/DC; Aerosmith; Slash; Motorhead; Rage Against the Machine; Michael Monroe; Wolfmother; Them Crooked Vultures; Stone Temple Pilots; Tab the Band (Joe Perry's sons!); Billy Idol; Cinderella and loads more.

Very cool jeebus!

Yes VT and Riley, I shall definitely enjoy it. Download is 5 days camping, a load of us going so it will be messy to say the least.

I'm sorry that we as a nation allowed Wolfmother to flourish, but otherwise it sounds like you're in for a great time!

I've had my fun for the forseeable future... have to see what's happening with my job before I commit to any more concerts. So far this year I've been to shows by John Scofield, Jeff Beck, Joe Bonamassa, Wilco and Ojos de Brujo... lots of fun!

 I don't mind Wolfmother but at the same time I don't mind if I miss their show either. We shall see!

Thats a great set of shows you were at! Which was the best in your opinion?

It's a bit hard to say, really... I've seen Wilco before, and they're still just about the best live act anywhere in my opinion. Nels Cline is very rewarding to watch/hear and Jeff Tweedy's gently sarcastic handling of boisterous concertgoers is great. Obviously I love the material and its performance, but there's something about Tweedy's stagecraft that does it for me. Perhaps it's because I like to think I'd be something like that if I were ever at his level. Heh. But... seen 'em before, so I would choose something that was new to me as favourite.

You know, I think I will go with Joe Bonamassa, as I knew next to nothing about what I was in for except that it was likely to be lots of guitar fun. Perhaps it's because he's much more plain-looking than Mayer, but he seems not to be plagued by the same media storm/screaming hordes (nor does he seem the type to court that scrutiny) and is a much more appealing performer for it in my opinion. It was his first gig ever in Australia, and he seemed genuinely psyched to have flown around the globe and found a thousand people all waiting on the other side to hear him play. He just seemed happy, and really played his arse off (even though I found out the next day that his #1 Goldtop hadn't survived the trip... he must have been gutted)... you could just tell that he was winning everybody in the room over. Plus, it was quite an intimate venue so I got to stand about ten paces away from him without feeling like I was squashed, and the sound was fantastic. Usually I'd feel as if I'd permanently lost my hearing across some frequencies if I were that close to the stage, but I could hear everything like it was a great, loud stereo system -- very helpful if you don't know the material in advance! His keyboard player is a local lad, as well, and he was enjoying playing for a home crowd. There's some YouTube clips floating around shot by the guy I was standing next to (anything labelled Sydney 2010 will probably be the ones), so it's nice to have that reminder.

I think Bonamassa will become a great favourite for Australian audiences, so it was a good feeling to be in at the beginning of that. You'd have to be a pretty grim bastard not to enjoy yourself at one of his shows! :D
