As an artist and from NY..I find this display of idiots walking in circles appalling. I work very hard to do a painting or drawing in the right perspective and to see something like this is laughable and sad at the same time. Art comes in all forms and not all art is viewed the same by everyone. But this looks like people in the subway waiting for their train to come in just bunking into each other. Theres no thought behind it, they just hope it don`t rain.

Yup... and it is doing just that today... raining. I didn't walk through the park this morning to see if they were roughing the storm for the sake of Art. My cousin is also a working artist in NYC, I need to find out what he thinks of this. Considering he was going to print t-shirts that say "art is... (insert 3 letter word for brotherly love to get around auto censor)" I'd have to think he'd agree 100% with you there. Best of luck to you. Not an easy thing to do if that's your living in this town.

Thanks for the well wishes Cap...My art is sold locally...to diners and neighbors and through word of mouth. I`m retired and not dependant on sales or I`d be living in a cardboard condo....

jeffo, you are pretty good at capturing the feel from the different eras, the spidey was very Ditko-esque, this captures the later Neal Adams batman feel.
great work.

Please tell me you draw on Femforce. The Blue Bulleteer might be my new favorite character.

I did some inks on their Gargantua book, which is the flip side of Fem-Force. I do have a story in issue #151 which I think is still on sale, which I provided the pencils for. It's done in a 1970's Marvel style ala early George Perez/Jim Starlin. That was drawn almost a year ago believe it or not. Since then, they've been slow to send me work because they don't pay their artists and I've gotten tired of working for free and started requesting pay for my services. They only give you your original art and as many comp copies of whatever you worked on, that you want.
ooh, I'll have to seek out a Comic shop, and see if I can find it.

Did you play the video?

as i said in my other post there is no evidence that taxes or the nea or the city of new york paid for the art that is the main subject of this post. i stand by my position that public art fund supports art with donations it receives from private donors. when you provide credible evidence to the contrary, i will gladly admit that i was wrong.

yes i am aware of the nea. apparently according to your linked article the nea's annual budget is $145 million dollars a year or roughly 85 cents per taxpayer per year. with all the government waste there are bigger fish to complain about than a measly 85 cents. also, the 50 million given to the nea in the stimulus bill is chump change or roughly 35 cents for each taxpayer.

Tell ya what comrad... I'll call the Public Art Fund today and inquire about the amount of Federal Funding they receive annually, and also see if i can even pry out of them how much "Walk the Walk" cost. Not sure if that will satisfy you but hey, i'm curious.

I dig art for the sake of art (quite a bit of it in Texas--especially Fort Worth, Dallas and Austin--even Amarillo has the Cadillac Ranch!), but only with private money, not our tax dollars...as long as there are roads to be repaired or kids that need proper food/shelter, there shouldn't be people noisily walking on a yellow platform in the name of "art".

again there is no evidence that the particular art in the link was paid for by taxpayer money. that is to be determined...

Not picking a side here, I'm not sure how things work down there, so asking a question.
If you click the 'About' tab and scroll down to the sponsorship section there is this:

Quote:
Major support provided by The Jamison Williams Foundation through the generosity of Billie Tsien and Tod Williams.

Walk the Walk is a project of Public Art Fund’s In the Public Realm, a program started in 1995 to identify and champion innovative public art projects by New York-based emerging artists. In the Public Realm is supported in part by the National Endowment for the Arts; New York State Council on the Arts, a state agency; and the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs.

so although the major sponsor is a private entity, would it be fair to say that at least a portion of the funding comes from 'The National Endowment for the Arts' and several other public sources?

Twelve Bar

I owe you one for taking the horse out to the field and putting it out of its misery. The meat was getting very tender.

I called the PAF but did not get a call back. I also emailed an inquiry but they must be on to me so I doubt I'll get a response as to how much the Exhibit actually cost.

Hopefully this thread will just go down to the bowels of the old thread dungeon.

Jeffo... thanks for sharing your art work. You got talent. Best of luck to you.

Edited: didn't want to bump the beaten horse to the top but got a response. Still not complete til i get the follow up but i'll keep ya posted so you all can be at peace... i know this is important news. I left out the names to protect the not so innocent.

Quote:
Thank you for your interest in Public Art Fund and our projects.

I would be happy to respond to your question and am just checking with the individual who handles funding in order to provide you with an accurate response.

In the meantime, would you be able to tell me a bit more about your reason for writing (i.e. are you a student, etc.)?

Best,
