Watched my recording of the Guitar Heroes over the week-end. All clips in the main from the The Old Grey Whistle Test. What stood out was the role the Fender has played in all of them being legends.

Hi Andrew, welcome to the Forum.

The question is, now we have Jools Holland's Later... how do we rate it against the days of The Old Grey Whistle Test?

Back in the day OGWT was the unmissable, hip, cool, happening bit of the week for some of us. Then The Tube came along and Whistle Test already started looking a bit long in the tooth.

I get a big buzz watching the old clips - but I wonder if that is just nostalgia for the good ol' days? It takes a heart of stone not to laugh at Whispering Bob Harris, looking back. Or even at the time...

On balance I think an updated OGWT would be better. I am a Jools Holland fan however the OGWT had something raw that has never been replaced. I mean the John Martyn performances on OGWT have never been bettered for 'being in the room' with him
