1. I'd go back in time to the 70's when people were practically giving away pre-CBS Strats, then I'd try a few until I found one I really liked and I'd buy it. And maybe I'd buy a few more so that I could sell them now and buy a car.

2. Figure out a way to stop SRV from dying (predictable, I know). Or do something about Hitler. Doing something about Hitler would probably be the more noble thing to do, but I'm leaning more towards the previous option. Let's change the rules to say that you can only travel back 50 years. :P

You know, meeting my parents as kids would also be kind of cool/weird. I'd talk my Dad into not selling his Univox Beatles bass and give him the bass tabs to all the Beatles songs. And I'd let my Mom know that her brothers would smash her 1960's acoustic guitar so that she could take steps to protect it.

Really ???????....No one said rig the lottery yet?

Quantum Physics as well as the theory of relativity says you can’t travel backwards in time due to possibility of creating paradoxes. The theory does speculate possible travel of alternate presence through unlimited parallel dimensions, and possible movement across time lines to the future…………..(In which case I would rig the lottery)

Now for sake of argument and science fiction; throwing quantum mathematics out the window and saying I did have a time machine and could sample past timelines……………I think I would still rig the lottery…………………..or buy a crap load of stock in Coke, Microsoft and the like……..and if I’m expected to be Nobel in some sort of fashion I think I might like to see a dinosaur for myself…

Cheers
Bill

Matter o' fact, I do have a time machine.

Vintage guitars? Pah: a poor investment. I've been using my machine to go back and get The Beatles to sign album covers, and then I sell them on Ebay in 2010 for stupid, stupid amounts of money. That's a much better return on each time machine journey.

Here's one from my latest trip (link in first post):

http://www.fender.com/community/forums/ ... hp?t=38482

'Course, what the world doesn't know is that the bottom fell out of the Beatles signature market in 2011, when it turned out that all their songs were written by a computer program I shipped back to them from 2025. That revelation took all their credibility away.

Cheers - C

I would buy a '59 Les Paul...and try to keep Duane Allman off that Harley on Oct.29,1971.
But you know Duane loved motorcycles, and he would have told me to mind my own business. 8)

I'd buy a first year Martin D28 or a 52 Tele.
I would stop the invention of all guns and weapons of destruction. That way wars would only have been fought with swords and arrows.

I know now it's been said but I would pick some winning lotto numbers with that time machine, one of the nice 100-million-plus jackpots.

As for a guitar I have no idea. All of my Fenders are disc'd so to get any of them brand new would be pretty cool.

I'd go back to to being 17 again, every 15 years or so.

 I'd go back and visit my 17 year old self and tell him: "Don't do that. Or that. Or that! And by the way, point yourself at her - not her..."

Trouble is, my 17 year old self wouldn't listen... [Sigh]

Not a guitar strictly speaking, but i would be inclined to pick up a stradivarious violin, worth a pretty penny these days.

After that I'd stop by early 60s Hamburg and wait for stuart sutcliffe to leave the beatles and swoop in myself.

-If you had a time machine... and you could buy one guitar from any year, what would it be?

Not sure what year it was but back in the very early 90s i found this beautiful sunburst strat that I just couldn't afford. I loved the finish and feel of that. Yeah it wasn't a relic or vintage but i just always wished i could have gotten it.

-If you had a time machine... and you could change one event from history, what would it be?

Jeez that's a tough one. First instinct was Hitler... but if there is enough time machines going around maybe everyone has that covered. So i suppose i'd call my wife's friend who worked in the EOD dept in Iraq and lost his life. Perhaps finding a way to save countless others is more appropriate but it was very sad so at the very least i'd love to call him on that day and tell him to find a way to be somewhere else.

RIP. T.C.

Or prevent the John Lennon murder who ... similar to Darrell ... was also assasinated on Deceber 8th (except 24 years earlier).

As for the guitar ... some nice sunburst 1960 Les Paul standard would be fine for sure (even to be able to get a '79 Les Paul KM would be out of this world). I would also love to get an early 1960's SG too.
