Just got tix for Fuel/Bon Jovi concert on May 19th at Hershey Pa. I've been thinking about taking him to a bigger concert but didn't know who would be good for the 1st experience. He just turned 13. Figured this should be a fairly tame crowd compared to say Metallica or Slipknot which is more what he prefers. He does however like Bon Jovi and Fuel as well. Right now I think I am more psyched than he is though. Last concert I was at had to be 5-7 years ago! Anyway, I'm chomping at the bit already!

I'm sure I will guitgirl, Im just hoping he does. He's a little concerned about getting home late. He just made junior national honor society and doesn't want to bomb any tests he may have the next day and not make the cut. I told him to relax, by then most of his big tests should be done for the year anyway.

I don't want to be one of THOSE dads Nevin. Like everyone out here, music is an obsession for me. Unfortunately I lack skills on the guitar. I still am trying to foster the same love of music that I have in my son and and daughter. Me thinks its working! ;-)

I've never seen bon jovi but metallica crowds aren't that bad :) My first gig was System of a Down, but then again it wasn't with my dad :P
Hope you have a good time :)

Have a great time, and I think you picked a perfect show as Bon Jovi will crank out hit after hit so he will be into it.

+1
The crowd maybe looks a bit rougher, but it's all cool. They're all there to see Metallica. If they're on tour in your area one day, don't worry about taking him to see Metallica. Everytime they put up an amazing show. 8)
Bon Jovi is a good first concert too. I hope you guys have fun.

Last summer I took my son/15 at the time to his first show. KISS at Summerfest in Milwaukee, it was pretty cool. He was blown away at just the size of the stage, the volume, the lights and all the show.

He'd seen it plenty of times on the TV from my dvd's, but in reality it's a whole lot different.

Have a good time at your show, Bon Jovi are great showmen so I'm sure you won't be let down. And you'll have a great memory with your son.

Hi Pineknot14: this is one of the most crucial duties a father can perform for a son. Kudos to you! :D

My dad took me to my first proper big gig: The Who at Kilburn in 1977. I think he had to briefly join the fan club to get tickets, if I remember right. That show recently came out on DVD - I've searched hard but I can't find us in the crowd. We're there somewhere though!!!

Both of you: enjoy your show!
