Did you know
that the ACLU has filed a suit to have all military
cross-shaped
headstones removed?

Why do these people hate us?

We have always fought for freedom for all people including them nowhere in the world could their organization exist if not for the sacrifice made by our servicemen and women. Why?

Thank you Nevin1985, I got that e-mail and freaked out obviously, there is so much stuff happening in the past couple of years that I definitely don't understand, this new one just caught me surprised not in a good way again, I feel a little better knowing that the ACLU isn't going to start desecrating the graves of our fallen servicemen and women. again thank you Nevin1985.

Hi SBLS, hey better be safe than sorry.

I had to edit myself because I don't want to start a political thread that degenerates into nasty comments, but, lets just say that censorship is not a good thing.

Take care, have a great weekend. :)

this thread is a good lesson for everyone...that before passing along information or acting upon information...it is a good idea to research and verify that the said information is reliable.

You're right, but don't count snopes.com as a reliable source for facts.

SBLS- I've been waiting for the ACLU to sue the SF school that violated 5 students 1st amendment rights. The kids were told their American flag teeshirts were offensive to mexican students, and must take them off, or
"GO HOME". We get to pay for their health, and welfare, but they dont wanna see our flag. C'mon ACLU, where are you?

SBLS, I was told London schools were ordered not to serve 'hot cross buns', because they are offensive to muslim students.

The ACLU is a joke as far as I'm concerned. I'm a veteran and seeing this just digusts me.

But if it's not true--which it isn't--why are you disgusted?

I am also a veteran and an on-again-off-again member of the ACLU. They do a lot of good things, standing up for people who exercise their right to free speech. Nobody has a problem with people who say what everyone wants to hear, but unpopular speech needs to be protected. The ACLU fills that vital role. And they're hardly the left-wing organization that people like to portray them as. They've defended the Ku Klux Klan and Rush Limbaugh among many others.

I agree that the moral of this story is always to check your facts before you forward an inflammatory e-mail or post it on a public forum. 8)

With all respect, I've never heard of the ACLU in any action that is beneficial to most Americans. They use the law to inflict discomfort and forced tolerance on the many in defence of those who are on the fringes.
Basically looking through the wrong end of the constitutional telescope.
Their idea of 'rights' subvert democracy into a bizarro world of
minority rules. The general will be damned.

I love that scene in Dazed and Confused, where the hippie stoner realizes he doesnt want to work for the ACLU, after all. God, that was funny.

Bros I apologize for reacting to that e-mail I should have responded as captain eyeball graciously (thanks cap'n) let me know, thoughtful about extremes from all sides of the benches and halls of our legal system and rights participants pushing information sometimes leading but not factual (how to put that) just to influence people to think about that information in a predetermined way that is unsettling disturbing, I remember reading about ACLU involvement in controversy about Christianity before when most Christians accept everybody and spend the majority of their time working on self improvement I think it is called leading by example. Why they have pressured us in the past makes me think they just don't like free people when America is nothing if not synonymous with Freedom, it was that memory that made me almost believe the worst thing that they could possibly do, this constant negativity mixed with what appears to be propaganda in the news promoting and berating unbalanced which throws me off balance, Bros I apologize.

SBLS, No need to appologize. Some things make us react strongly and with the ACLU's track record something like that is easily believable.

you claim that the aclu does nothing to help most americans, and they work to inflict discomfort and force tolerance...yet you don't even offer one example to support your assertion. here's an example how about the time when the aclu represented nazi's and fought for their right to march openly and peacefully in skokie illinois a mostly jewish suburb. the case skokie v. illinois went all the way to the u.s. supreme court where the aclu prevailed and secured the nazis first amendment rights. do i like nazis? no. do i support all peoples rights and civil liberties even unpopular fringe groups? yes.

if you love freedom you must love it for all or that's not freedom. history is ripe with examples of governments or a majority trampling on the rights of minority groups and creating real pain...i.e....nazi germany, the spanish inquisition, or how about the supreme courts decision in dred scott or plessy v. ferguson.

i don't know if you missed the lecture in you government class but our constitutional system has been set up to prevent a tyranny of the majority. the u.s. bill of rights specifically guarantees rights to ALL CITIZENS. the bill of rights was created, among other reasons, to calm the fears that many had at the time of the constitutions creation and ratification that too strong of a government was being created, that a simple majority would be able to run rough shod over minority rights, and the government would become oppressive. This concern was discussed by many of the founding fathers including james madison in the federalist paper #10.

the general will is dammed in our form of government and it rightly should be when the majority and the general will try to do things that are unconstitutional.

and as far as you recollection of the character you mentioned in dazed and confused...the characters name is mike, and he does mention that he doesn't want to work for the aclu...not because he doesn't like the aclu but because he comes to the realization that he is a misanthrope. also you characterization of him as a stoner is incorrect. he never smokes weed in the movie. near the end of the movie mike ends up getting in a fight because he had made a comment about smelling weed that is heard by and upsets another character.

SBLS- Yes, fact check before posting. But, and it's a BIG BUTT, the story is all too believable considering the ACLU's track record. Anyone would assume it to be true.

Captain eyeball_ I didnt name cases 'cause I dont know if it's Wineblatt vs The State of Iowa or whatever. Who cares? What's the opposite of 'tyranny of the majority'? Um, tyranny of the minority? Sihks get to open carry knives at school, but no one else gets to. So, forth...
Still waiting for the American Commie Lawyers Union to defend those 5 kids.....
