A hard disk read-write head flies just millionths of inch above the disk platter during operation. A sharp blow to the drive can cause the head(s) to slap against the platter(s). Not a good thing!

Hi Doug: for sure. It's just that, like lucy implied, these external drives seem much more sensitive to it than others I've come across. I remember gently lifting mine a couple of inches to check the wire was in and it started whining like a baby! Whoa...

Still works though, glad to say.

Cheers - C

personally i went for an internal hd and a caddy. you can get the caddys on ebay for next to nothing, and then the drive will function like a normal hard disk.

buy a seagate or a samsung .....get the cheapest you can and buy a new USB 3.0 one when they come out. .....these things go out of date and get very small very quickly .....

usb 3 would be a good option as well. Just make sure you computer can support it or it will mean upgrading more components!

We use the Glyph GT series here and those are great. We also have a lot of clients working with G-RAID and those seem very reliable. Storage is becoming so cheap nowadays... i remember my lacie 80gig D2 Costing me 250 bucks and i thought that was a fine deal and tons of space i probably would never use.
