I agree. Gibson is not as customer oriented as Fender. Having perchased two Gibsons, I found that their quality control is lacking.

I've also noticed that a lot guitar companies don't make Strat or Tele sounding guitars. They might look very Strat like, but they sound more like Gibsons or Super Strats.

The only exception that I can think of is G&L. This is for obvious reasons.

I believe that most modern players are playing other brands that are Gibson influenced, but cost less and after cooler guitars over all.

I really don't feel that other guitar companies get into Fender's market as much as they do Gibson's market.

Case in point: My son wanted a flying V. It wasn't a Gibson he chose. It was a Jackson Randy Roads model.

As a disclaimer: This is only my opinion as only as valuable as dirt.

Stroke my ego guitar list:
2004 40th Anniversary American Series Strat (I love this guitar)
2000 Candy Green EC Sig. Strat
2007 Black HW1 Strat
2001 Home built Heritage maple stain Strat w/ Texas Specials (I was able to get Robert Cray to sign this guitar)
1997 Dalphnie Blue Strat
2004 Muddy Waters Tele
2007 Home built Andy Summers inspired Tele (This guitar was a Labor of love)
2004 110 Taylor (You would have to kill me to part with this guitar)
2008 Metallic Red Jazz Bass
2008 2-color SB '51 P-Bass (very Sting bass like)
2004 AAA flame top Ice Tea Burst Les Paul Std.
2006 Wine Red ES335
1998 Vester copy of a ES335 (I like playing this guitar better than the Gibson ES335)

Feck - have you actually dragged that one home, Ninja? I flippin' LOVE that top wood! Very cool if that has become yours - congrats! 8)

Worth the search.

Cheers - C

No I haven't sprung for it yet. I am so sorely tempted, the only thing stopping me is a disney trip.

BTW Guys I dont know where your getting the ideas that Gibson and Epiphone necks are fitted in anywhere near the same way. Epiphone have a much more solid join. They cut the tennon of the neck to precisely fit the body. Gibson on the other hand have a rough dimension which they then shim to get the correct angle. The only reason I can think of for doing this is to be vintage correct. It is absolutely in no way slower than fenders method, unless you take glue drying time into consideration. It certainly doesnt have the wood to wood contact area of either fender or epiphone neck joints.

Yes it's right if you break the headstock off a gibson it changes the neck. It becomes stronger. I cant think of one gibson with a glued on well repaired headstock that has suffered for it.

Ohh man...

Disney or a CS Les Paul... Dont you hate it when you are faced with such a desicion..

I have to Agree with Ceri- that is a nice flame top and like the grain on it too. Interesting colour though, I would have taken it for a faded honeyburst.

Nik, is mickey mouse worth it? Id go for the paul myself..

If your up for a holiday- the AU/NZ dollar lets your pound go further down here mate, you ought to try the theme parks on the Gold Coast

It ain't Mickey thats worrying me, though I am sorely tempted to get paralytic and then kick his head in, whilst someone films it. (I reckon that could get me feeling a bit better about the whole affair. Once I got out of le'clink)

It's three daughters who just dont care about a reissue greeny. I personaly couldn't give a toss what gibson call it. It's what I call it that matters.

Your sure pick the best one my friend. Like I said that would be the one for me too!! Just, if you get it, don't take it on gigs man. Too fine an instrument for that type of abuse. That's one for the house and safe keeping.!! You know you've giving me Gas again!! Darn you Ninja!!

BTW I got to listen to The Sidevalves last night and was impressed with them. Specially the lead guitar player and the singer!! Cool and well done!! 8)
