Hey VP.
I would say go for something pretty versatile that might have a little more of a rock sound. I would suggest the American Deluxe HSS strat. It has the humbucker so its very rock oriented but also has the 5 way switch and the S-1 button which allows for many more tonal possibilities. Who knows... maybe you'll become the LEAD guitarist someday and you can still use this guitar!

I heartily agree with a sticky..... I shudder every time I see this question.

I'm officially getting out of the "what should I buy?" or "what is better?" business. No more. I'm not even gonna read em.

ok so why did you even take the time to post in this.
wouldnt you have wanted some help from people who knew something about guitars back in the day when you started?. are you too good to help your fellow guitar player out?

You're new to this board so you probably don't realise that this question is asked every day just about. The answers are all over the board and all the same. All anyone needs to do is look. Oh yeah, if you bothered to read this entire thread, you'd see that I was one of the first to respond to VP and tried to help him.

Hey midnight- iin two days you have probably only seen one or two of these- wait a couple of months, then let's see how you feel. It's not about helping folks out- that I think everyone on this board does. But asking a question as broad as -"I wanna buy a guitar- what should I get?" is pretty much saying- " I'm kinda lazy and I don't want to do any research at all"; there is a name for folks like this- it's called "spooner" because they want to be spoon fed everything without taking time to do a little legwork. There is a wealth of helpful info ON THIS FORUM that advises folks what guitars have such and such and if you do a search- you'll get more information that you can shake a Maple neck at
But hey, for the record- thie best advice is:
A guitar is a very personal thing- what I like may not be what you like- go to your local music store and try out guitars until your fingers are sore- one of them will "feel" right- and that's the one you buy. See? simple. :D
