So i stroll down to pickup my mail yesterday afternoon and my latest issue of mf catalog came in and there's a really cute girl on the cover holding her guitar. I had wanted to see prices on Fender teles or maybe a nice acoustic but for some odd reason i kept wondering who was this rocker girl on the front?

Her name? Orianthi and i see that prs is giving her a signature guitar and a long list of great guitar players she has met and gigged with. Then i see her hero is carlos santana and he thinks she is a rare talent.

So off i went to youtube and the first video i see is of her and steve vai and she seems to be matching him lick for lick, not an easy feat in the least. Her licks seem fluid & smooth almost like running water along the frets.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G7b-_YcA ... re=related

Alot of her music is pop based and doesnt totally interest me but she is pretty talented and even if her music is not your cup of tea (nor prs guitars lol) you have to admit the kid has talent. I believe in one of the videos they said she is 25?

Im pretty impressed by her and would like to see how she evolves as an artist. If you know anything about her chime in.
:)

I don't know much but I heard that she was discovered by Michael Jackson. I saw her video on the Disney channel after one of my daughters shows was over and my initial thought was "Great. Yet another guitar player whose guitar is more of a decoration than an instrument." Then I saw the solo and was pretty surprised. If it makes young girls feel like they can fit into the male dominated guitar world then I'm all for it. My daughter is 6 and wants to play so maybe she can look up to her down the road.

She really made noise at Claptons Crossroads festival. There is no doubt she is the real Mcoy and a special talent. There must be something in the water in Australia where she and Becks bassist Tal Wilkenfeld another extremely talented female player is also from. Orianthi was scheduled to be Jacksons guitarist on his last tour and caught a bad break when he passed as she would of received huge exposure which would of also of been great for all guitarist as she definitely would of inspired a lot of young people male and female to play.

She signed with a label who has her out there as a pop artist though I admit I found here first single very catchy but was also glad to see they did not cut her playing back and let her shred away on it.Only time will tell where she winds up but I am a fan.

Actually, i dont think think it was a bad break that she wasnt able to be michael jacksons guitarist, i believe that if she had been she would not have been allowed to have a solo career nor would it be promoted.

Now that she is signed she is getting attention for herself and not being a hired gun for MJ.

What i wonder is will she have 2 sets of fans? Kinda like cypress hill had hip hop and alternative music fans she will have her pop and hard rock fans and really has her choice which road she wants to go down or be a blend of somewhere in the middle..

Actually she was a protege of both Steve Vai (opened for him when she was 15) and Carlos Santana.

She's been playing about the place here in Australia, supporting John Mayer. An interesting combination... I was mildly curious, but I've blown my budget for live music on some recent "must-sees". Friends who've seen her mostly seem to think she'll go far if she just slows down a bit and lets her own feel come through more... maybe try some amps that encourage nuances rather than the pair of 5150s she's sporting at the moment. She definitely has the goods... and let's face it, you do have to be fairly easy on the eye to truly make it these days...

i like her music. Its easy listening and very catchy with a bit of flare when she solos. She seems competent and it i am looking forward to her next album.
She doesnt seem to have much exposure over here in the uk as I have only just managed to get her cd over here without it being an import and paying ridiculous amounts for it. I guess like most I found out about her from This Is It.
She seems cool though :)
