last week i had to borrow some solder from the tech guy at the local music store to do the instal of vintage wiring pups and pio caps on the sg , and got talking to ted one of the guys who runs the place , he was asking about what i was doing so i told him about the sg and the lp , he said he wouldn't mind hearing them , i dropped in yesterday with the lp , he plugs in a new marshall combo (more switches on it than the space shuttle cabin :) ) plugged it in and started to play , withing 30 seconds he had a smile on his face and said this thing sounds excellent :) he ended up playing it for about 5 minutes and gave it a thorough sound testing , using settings on the lp and changing the amp settings as well , i would say he was pleasantly surprised by my epi lp:) after talking about what had been done to to it and what kind of pups were in it , he was shocked when i told him the price of the pups , he thought they were much more expensive :) ted was well impressed with the beasty and he thanked me for bringing in the lp for him to try it out :) . i've been going to this shop for 30 years so the guy knows a thing or two :)
i ended up buying a neat pair of strap locks for the lp while i was at it :) , just thought i'd share , cheers
Alan

That's a nice relationship to have with a music store. A local shop is better than a big clearing house in that respect. I stop and visit our shop here every once in a while and pick up stuff or just shoot the breeze and talk guitars or music. Sounds like you deal with some good people. 8)

I got a HRD VM mate, it's a sweet amp 8) I first heard it when I tried out a MIA Standard Tele a few weeks back, the sound just stayed with me. Hopefully we can hook up next week, so you can give it a go :D As for the store itself, had they got their official Fender dealer status a few years ago, I would have done a lot more biz with them. I bought my very first PA out of there, many moons ago  An old HH amp, with a couple of WEM collums 8) I'm sure this is their 36th year in business, pretty amazing record all things considered.

HA! Now that's a setup I remember very well, from personal experience. WEM we know about: whatever the heck became of HH? One of the guitarists back in high school days had an HH combo we thought was the bee's knees at the time...

Cheers - C

Hi Alan,

Yeah, the Hot Rod Deluxe Vintage Modified. It was Ted that turned me on to it, he bought the first one they got in  Looking forward to hooking up again mate.

Hey Ceri,

You remember the set up eh? Our guitarist had the H n H combo too, we rocked  Those were the days 8)

I know just what you are talking about alan as there is nothing I love more than going to my friends neighborhood store that has been in Brooklyn 80 years as it is 3 generations and hanging out all day. I will stop in sometimes at 2pm and leave with him at 9pm. Just so much goes on with guys coming in with there axes and stories going back and forth that you could never feel that way in a big chain store. Also I never hear a bad word about Epi's, in fact it is funny that they seem to have a better rep than Gibsons. Go figure.
