so i took my weimaraner to the river to do some fishing. actually, I'm the one that does the fishing, he just walks around or swims down stream. i heard the fish were biting but i didn't catch anything after about an hour and a half so i decided to pack up and go home. only problem was, i couldn't find maynard (thats the dog).

i did find out after about five minutes that if you walk around yelling maynard into the wind, people look at you funny.

soon after that, the wind shifted and brought in this terrible odor of rotting fish corpse that had not been detectable earlier in the day. as i follow my nose toward the stench, lo and behold, there is maynard. standing over this dead catfish as if he just won the world heavy weight title with a K-O victory. i also was amused by the string of fish guts he was wearing around his neck and all over his body from rolling all over this poor fish.

i threw him into the river (more like a gentle shove, the word 'throw' insinuates violence, imo) ...so i gently shoved him into the river to wash off a bit. its been about three days now, and after 4 baths outside and a really good scrubbing in our tub, he still smells like fish guts.

random and very long post, but im getting frustrated and needed to vent.

At least you'll have a funny story to tell after the smell finally goes away!

I feel your pain. One of my dogs got nailed point blank in the face by a skunk. It was 6 months before it went away. Tomato juice, dish soap, fabric softener, etc, were powerless....

My German Shorthair is always killing something in the back yard and bringing it up to the door as his trophy. he's gotten Rabbits, birds, the mole that was tearing up the year for a month and once a possum. His current targets are the squirrels that like to hang out by the bird feeders.

Dogs are great arnt they

My dog who was with me growing up was, shall we say an independant spirit. He was walked everyday but spent quite a bit of time trying to smash through the wooden gates near the pavement.

Eventually he managed it after about a year of trying. Then it was off for a few days, used to come back worn out, raggy pads etc and sleep for hours.

Guess he must have had lady friends scattered round the town hehe.

:)

i love maynard. we went fishing again yesterday... and guess what he found... again. lol he still has a bit of an odor, but it is clearing up! i was surprised.

he likes to lay in bed at our feet at night, but lately he's been locked out of the bedroom. maybe in a day or two he can come back and enjoy 'his' tempur pedic mattress!
