Riley I do not know the song or the key but I know exactlty what you are talking about. Move the song to a different key up the neck as the distance between frets gets smaller as you go up the neck. Start say with D on the 10th fret or even if you have to go to the 12th fret in E and practice it there until you build up the strength in your pinkie to pull it off, and it is not going to happen overnight. So once you get comfortable playing it there move down a key and so on and so forth until you can do it in the correct key. Dont forget your body is still growing.

The first root finger is on the 8th fret of the e string, so i think C key (am i correct??), you have to keep the index finger on the 8th, middle on 10th, and move up to 12....If that makes any sense
