I just wanted to let everyone know that I hate the Gsus4 chord. I don't really care for the sound or that there isn't a variety of ways to grab it.
Anyone else have a guitar chord or scale nemisis?

Yep a movable 6th string root "2" chord. For example G2:

Code:
x------------------------------
      |     |     |     |     |
x------------------------------
      |     |     |     |     |
------------1------------------
      |     |     |     |     |
------------------------------4
      |     |     |     |     |
------------------------------3
      |     |     |     |     |
------------------2------------

Sorry for the awful diagram

Once you've raised the "2" up an octave like that, you have an add9 chord.

If you put a major third in there somewhere it would become a more popular chord with you, I'm sure (perhaps you already know this). Currently it's just Root, 5th, 9th -- which is harmonically vague, to say the least.

The most common approach to this one is the "other Hendrix chord":

1 E --------|-------|-------|-------|-----
2 B --------|-------|--2----|------|-----
3 G --------|---1 --|-------|-(3)--|-----
4 D --------|-------|-------|-------|-(4)-
5 A --------|-------|-------|-------|-----
6 E --------|-------|--T----|-------|-----

T= Thumb on the 6th string

Play the notes held by the thumb, first and second fingers, then hammer on with the third finger. Add the fourth finger after the hammer-on for a fuller sound.

A half-barre with your first finger over the A,D and G strings will definitely work, too, for that G 6/9 sound.

Apologies if you already know this... :)

I hate pictures of guitar players who pose stretching out 8 frets on the fretboard with a voicing that looks like it would never be in a song or even make sense.

...and I hate it when I hear a nice little tune -- Eric Johnson's Friends comes to mind -- and it turns out that what I thought would be some relatively straightforward-but-interesting open chords turn out to be playable only by a pair of unusually dextrous tarantulas... :D

The "A Form" D chord played at the 5th fret is damn near impossible for me. I have a tough time maming my 3rd finger lay flat cross the 7th fret AND managing to somehow only play strings 2-5

Yeah... you need to mash that first joint of your third finger down hard to get it to bend backwards slightly, then the rest of the finger will mute the high E string so you don't have to think about it... I used to have trouble with that one, too. I think everybody does at some stage!

When flamenco players take an open A, they often use their first finger flat across the D and G strings, and their second finger taking the note on the B string. That way, the open E (1st) string is available if they want it, and they still have a couple of spare fingers to do some fancy stuff around the basic A shape.

Hmm... I'm full of it today... :)

Goose- So, I guess Hard Days Night isnt your favorite tune, eh? Well, that would be the G7sus4 chord, I guess. 353533

Another tough one is the G6, where the pinkie must reach across the ring finger.

3X243X

Hard to do on the fly.......There's other ways of playing it, but they sound too tightly packed. The voices are in the wrong places.

When playing that shape I barre with the index, have my ring finger holding the D string then the end of my little finger spanning the G&B . I can still get the high E to sound.

If just an open A chord is needed I just barre my index finger across the D-G and B string and either let the high E ring or mute it. And outside of playing chords up near the nut I hardly ever play voicings that use all 6 strings. As you get a much better rhythm sound with 3 or 4 string voicings and hitting all 6 strings but muting the other strings out with your left hand. I think SRV was the master of doing this in fact I can hear the chunka-chunka-chunka in my head just thinking of him. More amazing was his muting mastery while soloing and hitting all six strings while just having the single notes he wanted popping out. Complete control!

I hate all that stuff - but only cos I can't do it!

Also: I SERIOUSLY hate tarantulas. "Unusually dextrous tarantulas" just sounds beyond-the-beyond as far as hatefulness goes. I try not to talk much about stuff I don't like on these forums - because why should anyone care? But tarantulas I'll own up to.

Strangely, I have a (stuffed) tarantula in a glass case on the wall above my amps (true). It was given me by an ex-girlfriend. Either as therapy or cruelty, I was never sure which...

Oops, sorry for the hijack.

Cheers - C

Pete Townsend likes it.
