lately we have been receiving a lot of spam and trolls and it really bugs a lot of us. we come on here to discuss guitars and such and we get hit with a bunch of nonsense. we are also having a lot of new members, which is great for the community but sometimes we dont want to filter threw some of their useless posts like them showing of a vid that they think is funny or acting like a complete a-hole from the first post they post when they join our forums. now, some of these new members are great, but as we get more new members we also get more trolls and etc, as more people hear about this forum.

so here comes the idea/question,
would it be possible/a good idea, to make a "special lounge" for people who have been on the forums for maybe an X amount of months or an X amount of posts? it could be like a place where we could chat with each other and not have to worry about getting trolled on or spammed.

please comment and vote :D

Not really sure what you want me to vote on since you raised a few issues in your original post.

My stance...get rid of spammers and advertisers, but don't limit or discourage newcomers.

I'm a big fan of ignoring posters or threads you really don't care about. I may be new but i have noticed on the main menu that there is a "Strat" "Tele" etc area to post. In my opinion those are the places that should and probably are void of people posting random things. This place i've found to be a great place for folks with a common interest to just share there everday stuff with be it, gain info or share a joke.

I've gotten VERY valuable info from many of the members here that have helped make my strat sound as good as i believe it does... i've also got some really good laughs thanks to many others.

Perhaps the "Dept of health and human services "before you post" movie should be bumped every once in a while to remind folks of the search feature but thats about it from my standpoint.

Excluding folks because they haven't met some "quota" for number of posts before they are deemed "a viable member" seems very wacky and pretentious.

I'm not really a fan of exclusion or 'good ol boys clubs'. We were all new once, it was the friendly nature of this forum that made me stick around. I'd hate to think that we'd have to sacrifice that friendly stance just because of some automated computer program that posts adverts. Or people who (to put it diplomaticaly) are used to lesser sites.

Better off to just be tolerant and leave our illustrious leader to watch over us.

Nah, If you just ignore it, it won't bother you. Making a boys club based on posts or time here is nothing more than a clique. I despise cliques. :?
As for trolls, don't feed the trolls and they'll just go away too.

I agree with 62Supro and Nick, but it would be nice to have a sticky about using the "search feature" before posting. (For the newbies that don't read the rules and terms of agreement).

I'd rather just keep ignoring the posts I don't want to read. Also, encouraging people to report spam to the moderator works well on another forum I'm a member of...

Putting up with the odd spammer until Brad gets to em is a small price to pay to meet all the great new folks we get here. I can think of a few from the last few days alone, that I think are fine additions.

I don't see the need to censor or be exclusive to anyone. As was said... just don't read posts or threads you wish to skip. You would not believe how many posts I just click past in the course of a day of perusing these threads. No offense gang! 8)

What we need is a Report Spam button that goes directly to Brad. Check out the little triangular exclamation button on the bottom of any post on MyLesPaul.com; it is a spam report link.

You have a valid point but I could not vote for some executives club.lol There has been an influx of new members some who made an idiotic first post but also some who made a very good first post. The bottom line is those who are serious and really have something to offer wind up sticking around while the others just fade away.
