This might be a stupid question, but will an acoustic guitar (which i'm getting for a graduation present) work on an electric's amp? namely the hot rod deville.

if it has an on board electronics, it will work. but it probably won't be the best suited combination. Acoustic amps are a little different in design, to better accentuate certain characteristics of acoustic guitar.

that said I sometimes play my acoustic through one of my smaller fender amps. i don't have an acoustic amp. it works OK.

yeah it does have onboard electronics. that's good to know, thanks for the info. i won't be able to get an acoustic amp for a long time, if i even do get one.

Its not going to sound the greatest, plus you will have feedback problems as well....

If memory serves, there is a pedal which makes the signal from an acoustic guitar more friendly to a "non-acosutic" amp.

It will work and sound pretty good if you keep it squeeky clean and use a feedback buster. An acoustic amp is alot better though.

The Aura Acoustic Imaging pedals made by Fishman will do this.

With a feedback buster in my Montara, I've played through my Line 6 for a jam session with pretty good results. The only thing that stood out to me was that "squeak" of the acoustic strings coming through very loudly from time to time. THe strings were new at the time too though.

when i was young and dumb, i played an entire set with my acoustic into my hot rod and could not for the life of me understand why it squealed so bad. ...i mean, it did ok thru the PA, so why not my hot rod lol. i was a dumb one, i was.

...even some of my friends left the show. that sucks. but its ok now, i play a mustang! :D
