I've only used the Stew-Mac copper tape...and it works well.

I used the DiMarzio stuff, I liked it because it was 3" wide as opposed to the stuff i originally bought off Musicians Friend which was 1.25" wide and got annoying because you had to deal with thinner strips. When i was finished, i discovered stew Mac so in hind site i may of bought from there but i can't see how different the DiMarzio stuff could be from what other venders sell so as long as you buy it from a place like Stew Mac or some type of guitar parts vendor i'm sure you'll do ok.

best of luck.

don't cut your fingers too much... i was skeptical that it would cut my fingers but to my surprise i did bleed a bit, but that's all part of the fun. I guess my strat and i are blood brothers for real

Dont bother trying guitar/music stores. Get round the DIY shops or garden centers and get some slug tape. Exactly the same stuff but costs less.

I don't know what your abbreviation "R/R" stands for but I caution you, if you intend to foil your pickups, you will most likely ruin them. At the very least, you will change their sound.

+1

I thought you were referring to copper shielding the Pickguard and cavity. I had pleasing results but i'd also be apprehensive about foiling your PUPs

I always use shielding paint in the cavity and on the pickguard.

FYI: If your guitar's body already has a base coat of shielding paint, copper foiling the body will be a redundant over-kill. Not only will it be a waste of time and money but you may even begin suppressing output and higher end frequencies due to the foil.

Apologies for the following highjack but......While were on the subject on sheilding....

Lets say someone was planning an epic build thread involving building a body from scratch....what would you do about shielding the cavity if paint was not availible?

Also lets say that as part of this build the person in question wanted to make a pickguard form scratch.....again what would you recommend for shielding? oooh i forgot to mention the person in question has used adhesive copper foil in the past on both pickguard and cavites but would greatly appreciate the opinions of others

Just curious.... on their behalf :D

Thanks in advance

Andy

Andy,

So that we don't hijack, I'm going to take this, your question and make a new post entitled, "Answering Andy's Question".

as for recommendations for shielding... provided i understand the hijack, I would add that in addition to adhesive copper shielding it should be conductive adhesive.

my worthless 2 cents.

Your input is NOT worthless!

Part and parcel of this whole shielding business is in fact, using some kind of conductive element(s) all joined together whose purpose is to serve as an enhanced ground (or 'earth' if you like). People like to believe it is akin to an impervious barrier like lead or something which eliminates any and all stray signals from entering into the circuit. Unfortunately just like water, stray signals will take the least path of resistance, right through the unshielded magnets and coils of the pickups. I say this over and over, again and again, yet is seems some just do not grasp this reality and feel that shielding the body of all things, prevents this. It's like if your feet are freezing cold, you put gloves on your hands to warm your feet; most illogical and marginally effective.

Best sheilding? YOUR BODY! Most people who complain about hum sit facing the amp so that they can tweak knobs for every song. Use a cord long enough to get back aways, turn around so that your body is between you and the amp, and any problems usually go away.
