I would have asked the salesman to check out the Guitar...and ask him if it has ever been returned. Then they'd be in a heap o trouble. I had something similar with a Car dealer once...told me the car was only by one owner...until the CARFAX came back!

i did and the manager had said that they had no record of it being sold or returned and told me to leave the store. i took a picture of the guitars serial number and it matched the one on my original receipt. needless to say i contacted their corporate offices and they said there is now an investigation of that guitar center store because it's apparently not the first time this has happened

yeah. I'm still willing to do business with them but I'm not buying anything there until it's under new management

The Guitar Center where I live is pretty good.... they wouldn't buy my friends ESP until he got everything fixed on it..... and where I live the guitars that get the most abuse are Schecter, Ibanez, and ESP because they have EMG's and are "metal" guitars because most of the kids and young adults my age play hardcore, metal, etc (which I like but don't really play) so I know the Fender's, Gibson's and and Epi's are all roads less traveled lol... So I guess it's all by store and region...

Yeah man, thanks d3 now I know what I should look at before buying a guitar. I never paid any attention to the finer details of a guitar until I saw this. Now I'll check the important stuff. Now, whats all the stuff I should look at? I also need to know how to know its not fixed or if its busted. That would really help. Thanks!!! :)

(Please note, I'm only fifteen! I don't exactly know all this stuff since I'm not a guitar wizard or anything) 8)

Well, first of all never buy a guitar you are even a little weary about, second make sure you check out EVERY little thing on the guitar i.e. how smoothly the tuning pegs turn, if the neck is warped, if it shows signs that it's been tampered with(rounded screws), if the neck needs a shim, if the neck joint has hairline cracks and ALWAYS run the serial number if it looks funky and you should be golden

also it's not a huge deal if the intonation is off and the action is too high/low or if the neck is slightly bowed as these are the easiest things to fix on the guitar BUT if you're not sure how to do it take it to someone who can properly set your guitar up. trust me on this, i got my nephew a Squier strat for his birthday last year and he decided to do some set up and broke the T-rod and now the neck curves like you wouldn't believe BE CAREFUL

Name 'em, shame 'em, report them to the consumer protection people. Go in with a digi camera and take a few snaps as evidence. The fine for this is in the very high thousands.
