I enjoy it! The only part I don't like is that we seem to have to go through every song in at least 3 keys before everyone agrees on one. I can't transpose in my head as I go along very well. And would be nice to have more players - usually just me and the drummer.

I play sometimes--on bass or guitar, as needed--I enjoy it a lot.

'Joined one almost 4 years ago, 198 Masses and services, to date, plus many, many practices. It's good for this writer's discipline, musicianship and even better, to get deeper into another dimension of spirituality.

Personal recommendation, go for it.

I called my church to see if they had a folk band for one of the other masses but they didn't so was a bit bummed. I'm not a holy roller but was thinking it would be fun and great way to expand my playing and meet and interact with other musicians. Might check out one of the other local churches... just suppose i cant wear my Arch Enemy T-Shirt on the days I'd be playing with the church group.

Actually that reminds me of a studio i used to work at that was owned by Born Agains... they were having Problems with their Protools system so i' was trouble shooting. The owners wife who was very flaky walked in and asked me what was wrong, when i told her that Protools was acting a littly crazy, she put both hands on the mixing desk and proceeded to exercise the "demons" it didn't work.

What you need to understand about anything to do with any modern pentecostal/baptist/evangelical church is that they run on authority and responsibility. You'll never really get any authority until you show yourself to be responsible. The person who excersizes authority over you has to report to someone.

Once you can get your head round that, you'll do fine.

And I might add.. Annointing.

Yeah absolutely though to someone who's not necessarily a believer you may as well be talking Saturnarian or Venusian. Their never going to understand that whole concept.

One of the reasons I believe churches shouldnt outsource for anything of a ministerial nature. Whatever happened to the old faith saying of God will provide.

Not saying that such Church bands are not good for outreach. Call me old fashioned I just believe that a worship teams job is to direct and lead the congregation in worship to God, not entertain the flock. How you can expect that from someone who may not even believe in God is beyond me.

that's a good idea, a possibility to play and earn some extra money.
in usa are gospel/church band more often as in germany. here you will find it to special events like x-mas, easter like that but not every wedenesday evening and sunday morning prayers. most are that gospel singers and a keyboard player alone or together with a drummer/percussionist.

yeah, the churchband with james brown and the blues brothers band that will bring the right mood in the house.

cheers :D

For me, it's better to join in that band rather in rock bands because in this way you can give praise to our Lord above.

Very well said Nikininja, you make a solid point there indeed!
