I use the RP350 for my at home metal sound. I run it straight into the effects return socket.
I use it live sometimes into the front of my amp for volume control. Using differing levels of volume from patch to patch to control gain. You can set the delays up for different songs too that way and ofcourse also add whatever modulation effects you like.

Sterile, yes. But they all are, you can get round it a bit by running a compressor after the multieffect.

i currently have a digitech rp350- and it's going up for sale. i purchased it about a year ago, but i'm just not happy with the sound. it also is a bit more complicated than i want.

i got a good deal on a line 6 crunchtone pedal. it is great. i am going to buy a wah, a trem pedal, and maybe a delay, and just stick with a few effects for now. i find that i probably won't use 90% of the settings on the digitech. i hope it goes to someone who appreciates its' versatility.

For years I used a Tom Scholz Rockman mounted in a Scholz Rockmount. Currently, I just use a Pigtronix Philosopher's Tome Compressor. It has a grit knob if I want to add some edge.

I have a Digitech RP-350, too. For my "heavy tone", I use it primarily for overdrive and some compression with my Line 6 doing most of the heavy lifting when it comes to distortion. I am extremely happy with the final tone. Previously I was using a modeled OD w/in the RP350, then I got turned on to a modeled Marshall amp tone that works even better. Now that I am dialed in, I am done twisting knobs. The thing has way more functionality than what I use it for, but it does what I want it to do.

I'm from the old, "Plug In and Play School". Give me a tube amp and I'm set. I've never used processors in the forty some odd years I've been playing and I cannot see myself ever using them any time in the future.

martian- i started playing back in the early 60's. in the late 60's i bought a nu-fuzz, as wll as a nu-wah. those were the only effects i needed. my amp had reverb and tremolo.

funny- i'm now going back that way. martian, are you saying you never used anything other than the straight amp? i'm impressed.

Me too. The older I get, it seems, the less fx I use. However I still keep them around for the gigs I need them for. Got to be prepared for any job.

I have a pedalboard full of effects. Mostly Overdrives and Distortions. I have a Visual Sound Jekyll & Hyde, that is 2 pedals in one, Overdrive and Distortion. I have a Danelctro Drive V1 Overdrive, a Danelectro Distortion, Boss Compressor, Modtone Aqua Chorus, and I just added a Zoom G2. The Overdrive and Distortions are all set to different levels and have specific songs for their use. I use the AutoWah, Delay, and an EQ setting in the Zoom so I can get the trebly rythym sound for the R&B, Funk songs we play. So far I like it. The delay is nice and the AutoWah is okay. I haven't had much time to tweak it and there are quite a few things I might try with it. My band plays a very wide range of music and it is nice to get the tone I want without changing settings on my amp or changing guitars. Just a step on the pedal and away we go. All these sound great through my SCXD for gigs or my Traynor YCV50 Blue at rehearsal.

So far I don't like the Overdrives and Distortions in the Zoom, but the modualtion effects seem nice. Time will tell if it stays on the pedalboard.

I've only been playing for about 2 1/2 years, and about a year in I got a Line6 pod XT Live. I've got a Frontman 25R amp, and I'm just playing in a spare bedroom. I honestly think it's helped me to keep practicing, as for some songs, just the amp wouldn't get anywhere close.

I don't allow myself to play with the settings too much during practice time, but if I want to, say, learn a ZZ Top song, I can just look up some settings on the website, download it, and I'm at least close. And their setting for a Marshall Plexi with Variac (i.e., Van Halen I type sound) sounds really close to my ears.

I keep finding new effects to try (without having to buy them) - just found the tremelo effect, but since I'm playing a Strat, I don't think I'll use it too much....

Yep, I NEVER used a fuzz as I could overdrive my amps into next week and regarding a wah, I either avoided songs with them in it, played whatever songs that had it without it or literally used the tone control on my Strat. One tune which clearly comes to mind where I simply used the tone pot was, "I'm Your Captain" by Grand Funk [Railroad].

i use a digitech rp90. i like it because being a beginner it allows me to get a lot of different sounds, but really lately I dont even use it unless I am playing at night and using headphones. I prefer a straight out of the amp Telecaster tone. Also the presets that I dig on my Rp-90 usually have so much loud dead air that I couldn't imagine using it live if I were to ever play live.

That reminds me of one more thing with the Pod: many of the downloaded settings are pickup specific, and they're usually for humbuckers. So some of them come off too noisy with a single coil, unless I dig in and play with compression, gating, and/or gain.

I think the Zooms let you actually set the type of pickup emulation, but I haven't tried them.

I figure, if nothing else, if/when I decide I need pedals, I'll know what I'm looking for.

When my old USB interface crapped out. I bought a Korg PX5D to use for it's recording interface, then found out that I liked the amp/cabinet modeling and some of the effects were pretty cool too.

The other built in features are just a bonus. I've used this as a direct box to the mixer for gigs as well. It uses REMS technology which Korg uses in their high end synths as well.

I've tried to "fool" the intelligent harmonizer, but it's pretty accurate!

I guess I'm sorta bi-sexual when it comes to processors. LOL!! On the one hand my favourite rig is just my Rivera amp and my Tele with nothing in between and I play that rig a LOT. On the other hand my Line-6 AX2-212 which comes with a tone of built-in F/X comes in handy sometimes and I kinda dig it for certain things. Especially the delay F/X. There are so many modes and options that I had never even heard of before and now I have been able to do some pretty cool stuff with it.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

I have a Boss GT6 which I love. It has some nice FX and decent amp modeling. I had an ADA MP1 which was cool for warming up the sound but got rid of it. I don't go crazy with FX on my GT6, just use the amp models for the sound i want with a splash of chorus and verb sometimes. It also models a handful of vintage fuzz, OD and distortion pedals so that comes in handy when trying to recreate certain sounds used on my favorite songs.

With the SPDIF out, i can go straight into the DIGI 001 and not have to worry too much about excess cables and added noise. You just have to make sure the 001 is clocking to to SPDIF other wise you get the clicky click
