Yeah, I got stung by a virus. I don't know how it got in but it wreaked havoc, everything was down. I couldn't send anything out and couldn't let anything in. Completely dead. It's cost me 60 quids to fix. Well I think it's ok, still a bit wobbly, these things are nasty but most of you will know that.
I think it actually posed as a security update and dropped the guards and then did it's nasty work before it got destroyed. I noticed a change in the security program before I lost it all and it's that, that is a bit shakey now.
So I'll have to see how it goes and tighten my security because I've not only lost some stuff, I've had to re-install everything.
What a bummer.
Anyway I hope everyone is ok and rock on. 8)

Glad that you got it sorted out. What anti-virus program are you using?

I run AVG, Spybot Search & Destroy and SuperAntispyware.

Thanks guys, yeah it's a real bummer, these things are very nasty.
I'm running the Mcafee security suite, I've also got that spybot, search and destroy and an addaware program, lavasoft I think it's called.
I'm puzzled really how it got in, it targeted anything that could stop it quickly. It was like someone gets into your house, starts a fire and destroys the fire extinguishers, cuts off the water, rips out the alarms and cuts the phone lines so you can't call the fire department and does it's dirty work before you can get at it.
I've been thinking about AVG, I think I used to have that once.
Anyway, good to hear from ya fellas, I'm currently re-installing stuff, so I'll be back properly in a day or two. Take care.

The virus on my PC is in the driver for the key board. If I force boot it in safe mode it looks like you can fix but the moment you think you got it a tab comes up saying driver corrupted the key board stops functioning and and it reboots and starts over again. McAfee let me down.

I now love My Macs that I bought after getting fed up with the PC's

I've been doing some computer/network troubleshooting and repairs, along with some upgrades.

When we run into a problem that we can't fix, we ask these guys :

Yeah, I know what you're saying CV, I'm feeling a bit disappointed in McAfee myself just now. :(

This is one of the reasons I'm going to bite the bullet and buy a Mac.

Rhumba Macafee's a complete waste of time mate, it has been for years.
I'm currently running Avira, which I'm not overly enamoured with, I'll be going back to AVG soon. Both of which are free.
What you need to do is run a constant monitoring antivirus that starts up on startup. And also run something like Malwarebytes or SuperAntiSpyware which are also free, but only operate under your command. That way they dont interfere with whatever constant antivirus your using (unless ofcourse your running Norton which conflicts with evreything, even cooking dinner). Just dont try scanning with them when your constant antivirus is scanning.

Something will always slip through one program alone. May as well use a few and limit that possibility.

I was running McAfee too when mine went down. Now I'm running Avast and so far so good. Ceri turned me on to that one.

Thanks Ninja, yeah you're right and I'm going to look at all those you've suggested there, I like the sound of it and it all makes sense and free as well. Got to be a good idea :D
I've got to agree, that virus just walked through the McAfee. I've got to have something better than that, thanks for the info mate, much appreciated.
Cheers man. 8)

Hi Lite'nin, the McAfee is not getting good reports. So you were running that one as well eh? It seems obvious I got to start using something else.
It's funny really, it's something I hadn't thought much about before now but it makes you think when you've been done.
I haven't heard of Avast but I will look.
Thanks friend. :D
