Cherokee- I wonder why there was no protest when Oklahoma enacted this law. Maybe it's because we're a point of entry, and we're messing up the Aztlan plan.

This is going to heat up. obama, president of the United States, has taken up the side of foreign nationals against his fellows. I hope I can be proud of my fellow Arizonans, and that we will not cave in.

Ours is a little less in your face and was enacted back during Bush's administration in 2006. This is pretty much a red state............. Mike

I agree with Both laws passed here. The protesters are crying that it's a federal issue but the feds haven't done anything about it in thirty years, and you have illegals in every one of the lower 48 at this point.I don't worry about the Canadian or British illegals, however many there are, they've done a good job of assimilating themselves so I dont even notice them. The illegals from Mexico and south america on the other hand, well, if anyone hasn't noticed them in their own state, come to Phoenix and see how well they assimilate. Like Oil and Water. I think when people say U.S.Citizens wont do the jobs they, well ask an unemployed guy whose unemployment has run out what he would do to feed his family, I think they'd take the job. You don't see that question asked on the six o'clock news. By the way I'm all for LEGAL immigration. Lets follow the laws, They're here for a reason. 8)

As the old saying goes: "The road to Hell is paved with good intentions."

Its a good idea, with noble intentions, done as badly and "in your face" as it could get.

With all the news on the bill here's a link to the actual legislation itself. I have read through it and have not found anything in it that should be causing such an uproar in the media.

http://www.azleg.gov/legtext/49leg/2r/bills/sb1070s.pdf

Good luck Arizona I hope you can enforce it; then the Federal Government will have to do their job. Enforce the existing laws on the books. I have no problem with immigration, but I do have a problem with people who have no intention of integrating into American society. They want the benefits without having to pay the costs.

Thanks for the link tdanb... That's right on the money. It does not sound like Nazi Germany to me. It sounds like what should have been going on all along. Enforcement of the laws. If people could just watch our 5o'clock news here in Phoenix, They would see the Drop Houses getting raided daily, The Illegals are held there against their will, When onev escapes, They bring the Cops, The Gang violence, The amount of illegal drugs on our streets.(now I've partied in my life) but the Heroin and Meth are way out of hand in this city and not to mention the people who come here illegally are being exploited by whoever thinks they can make a buck off them. It's sad. If they were legal, they would have rights and wouldn't be subjected to that. And for the rest of the country, If we don't do something now, it will be just like Phoenix in Green Bay Wisconsin and everywhere else that far away. And Why ???.... is our Federal Government so against stopping this illegal immigration??? :?

Most of us are immigrants and it is true todays are different from the immigrants of the past who assimilated into society. They became Americans. My Mothers Irish ancestors come here legally and did what was needed. My Fathers side come here in 1700 and settled in PA there children and grand children fought in the Revolution some were even killed by Indians. My Great Great Grand Father fought in the civil war K Company 107 Infantry was wounded at Chambersberg and Pop my Grandfather fought in France as a Sgt. U.S. Army in WWI and Dad was U.S. Navy WWII In the 1970's I signed up for the draft, two years ago My Teenage Son did the same. Get the gist we were, and are all proud Americans are these illegal aliens willing to do the same for our Country? If so let them come here legally and be accounted for.

OK, I'll weigh in. I am for both of them!! As those of you who know me, well I am in the military and I am damned tired of seeing criminal behavior allowed. I realize that when I joined the army I gave up some of my rights for the good order and discipline of the military. No problem doing that. BUT, when someone feels that they can just walk into my country and take whatever they want with out earning it, I have to take a stand. I am a legal immigrant's son...so I guess it is a very personal issue for me! Go Arizona. Plus, there is a new invention that the great Obama forgets about...STATES RIGHTS! If the fed government won't do their job properly then the states have every right to police their borders however they need to...JMO.

AZ Govenor, Jan Brewer is being interviewed as I write this. She just said, she sent 5 letters to obama officials, including former AZ gov Napolitano and obama himself, about the situation here.

She got no answer.......

I can imagine obama crushing her letter in his hands, and shooting it into a trash can on the other side of the oval office......"2 points!!..."

It has become a joke that the federal government has differences with upholding the law.

The jobless rate and economy here in Az is in dire straits, we can no longer afford the drain on social services and jobs created by the lack of enforcement that got us and other parts of the U.S. into this quagmire.

We hope other states will follow and get it right. "The times they are a changing" and unfortunately racial profiling as ugly as it sounds has become necessary due to abusing the system.

There is nothing new about it. It is one of the bedrock principles of our Constitution called federalism found in the 10th Amendment specifically and implied in other parts of the Constitution.

Amendment X

The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.

The cops can NOT just pull you over without a legal contact. As in speeding or drug dealing or what have you. The people who say otherwise are showing their racism or worse.

Vermont was NOT the only 2ND amendment fallower. As in carry concealed without permit. ALASKA also believes in the US constitution. So Now 3 states Alaska,Vermont and now Arizona. 47 more to go.

I know that..it is sarcasm towards a fed govt which is IMO is encroaching into a state's right to govern its borders.
