For writing it's almost always mood dependent but for playing if I hear a riff, song or effect I particularly like I'll try to get it down.

i agree with guitslinger. also playing in a band again. i play every day i can with the hope of some day being good. today practice has been cancelled. i'll sit down and watch racing, drink some beers and practice the tunes i'm weak on. of course i'll play the ones i just can't stop playing over and over.

Other than impressing people (yes, I'm not ashamed to tell the truth), boredom or it was something that I heard which I want in my 'arsenal' for possible future use.

Many times I'm inspired to write when I think about a melody...kind of like a soundtrack to Life.

When doing my own stuff with my bands I'm inspired by those I love or those I have loved and lost or those I have lost and still love.

When playing for other people's bands I'm inspired by paying my rent and bills.

Music inspires me. The music other people play... and also the music in my head. 8) I only wish I could make the music in my head become the music from my hands! :?

More practice! :P

I really should take some lessons.

I haven't written a song yet but I am working on it right now, I'm using Outside Woman Blues as my inspiration for the song I am writing, but it is an acoustic version.

So far as my inspirations go with playing, I am inspired to learn all the songs that I loved growing up and used to say "If I ever learn guitar I will learn this song". Also, I am inspired to learn most of the songs by the group Mana because their unplugged album inspired me to learn guitar in the first place.

Uhhh, for song writting, umm I dont really know actually. I guess I write about my boredom in an abstract way, so you could say boredom.
For just playing around, music :) , that inspires me alot to play with more energy.

Sitting on my back porch after a long day at work, feeling the setting sun on my face, sipping some tea, and smoking a cigarette while listening to the birds sing.

I always bring my acoustic out there with me and usually come up with something.

Guitar Hero motivates me. It motivates me to further my guitar playing to make the "expert-pro-Guitar-Hero-guys" tremble in their shoes.

Or there's the other side of motivation that makes me want to learn because there's nothing better than just enjoying the good times. :)

Bottom line the love of music. I also get a rush of gratification figuring out a song or writing one, and it is cool to see people appreciate what you can do.

As a christian, I'm mostly inspired by God and just what gets put into my head at the time. Plus, just those little things I hear from other musicians. Also, my singing lessons help 'cause I learn composure (and of course how to sing).

The interesting thing about guitar is that there isn't enough time within a lifetime to 100% truly master it.

...but it certainly is fun to try.
