Damn, I'm not getting a jaguar if my report goes well, due to our holiday in september, but, I will be getting one or two new pickups for my squier strat :) i'm thinking about getting LACE ones, or seymour duncans, but does anyone have any idea of what pickup I might like, as I dont know much about pickups,

thanks in advance.

Did you mean, if your report doesnt go well? As in report card?

What pickups did your hero, the decomposing, Cobain use? Must be some way of finding out. Somebody here knows, no doubt.

Good luck, Riley.

Yes and no, I said earlier on that I might be getting a jaguar if my report for school goes well, but its not gonna happen eitther way.

I'm actually looking for some pickups that give a real treble sound, not bass and of corse can cope with a crap load of gain, so I guess J Mascis kind of pickups??

Check out the Seymour Duncan website. They have a lot of good info as well as technical charts and sound bites of all their pickups.

You'd probably be looking for very "hot" pickups if you are after a high gain J Mascis kind of sound. Seeing he uses a Jazzmaster (with very large P90 style pickups), something like Fender Texas Specials might even do the trick otherwise Dimarzio might even be worth a look at as they make some very good high output pickups.

Bummer on the jag Riley, it's going to be so much sweeter when you do eventually get one if you have to work harder at it, good luck with the pickup search.

Riley I think you would like Dimarzio Fast Tracks, knowing the music you like. I have them in 2 guitars and they kick a##.

New pickups would help your Squier, but if your heart is set on a Jag I would just put my money in a Jag savings fund. Patience is a virtue my friend, stay vigilant and a deal might just come your way, whether on a big sale or perhaps a used in mint condition ^^

Riley,

Between the Lace and Seymore Duncans, I think you will like the Duncans better based on the type of music you are into.

I agree with Straycat and Nikininja that you may like the Dimarzio's a little better. I have a Dimarzio Super Distortion humbucker installed in my Highway 1 and it is very versatile. I can play just about any music I want. I do not play much Grunge, but I am confident that Dimarzio has some pickups out there that can deliver the tone you want. Just don't forget to change out some pots (volume and/or tone) if needed. If you are not confident in changing them yourself, I highly recommend taking it to a professional.

I also agree with the rest and recomend saving your money for that Jaguar you want. Nothing beats going into a store and walking out with the guitar you want. However, if you cannot wait, change the pickups to give yourself a little more inspiration for the Jag.

Good luck on the report card.

+1 on the DiMarzio Fast Tracks!

You should get yourself some little jobs and save every penny Riley. There is little out there more satisfying than working and saving for the guitar you want and then the day you actually get it is soooo sweet it's beyond words.

I couldn't save up for the jag, not in my payment of $30 a fortnight.
My uncle should be able to install'em, he's a guitar freak so....
Does anyone have the link to the Dimarzio site?

Clean people's cars, mow people's lawns, do super-market runs for people. If you want something bad enough there are enough odd jobs and chores out there for you to get it mate.
