which do you guys like better? twin reverb or ac30?

this is a broad question worthy of a broad range of answers/opinions.

depends on the tone im looking for. If im playing Rory Gallagher tunes il play through an AC 30 ( or simulation of one).

For cleaner tones ( doors spring to mind) the twin reverb is more apt, at least in my opinion.

Your question is way too broad. like asking if someone likes strawberries or rasberries, you will get folks who like both, so i cant see what such a broad question will help you with.

The ac30 can be used in smaller venues ,The twin reverb is one of the loudest amps I own.

I've always liked the sound of the AC 30 although I like the Twin also the AC 30 is my preference.

The Twin is my favorite amp but I always have a Vox amp around the house to complement it. I used to have an AC15 but I traded it for a much lighter Night Train head.

A Strat or Tele into a Twin is classic Fender clean and for my money, there is no substitute.

I'd say Twin AND AC30 :P

My two cents (talking about the Korg Era AC30, the one that's more or less like to the original, not the new Chinese reissues with reverb and master volume):

Twin:
PROS: super clean, super spanky, lovely for country/folk/blues, VERY loud, your ears starts to bleed before it breaks up (super super clean), accepts OD pedals nicely. a nice amp if you're into the clean side of the spectrum. a fantastic amp to build a sound on from a clean starting point. fantastic reverb. it's an amp that's not to ddificult to mod and changing speakers/tubes makes it even more versatile

CONS: VERY friggin' heavy. not everyone likes the projection of 2x12". too loud for most small gigs. forget about early breakup, not intended to so so, rather to be clean and spanky. too thin and shrill for some. a bit raspy if you want harder fuzz/distortions.

AC30:
PROS: clean and sparkly in a British sense, brings about the memories and sounds of the British sound. super versatile amp for everything except harder styles. this one's fantastic for straight forward rock'n'roll, pop, rock, perhaps a bit too midrangy for blues/country. very very nice amp if you're into the British invasion. alnicos in there make it an even NICER amp.

CONS: also heavy as f**k. also LOUD as f*ck. this one is very very very loud, even compared to the twin. needs to be pushed to start breaking up. the newer Chinese models have a master volume but it's a different kind of beast. would have loved some reverb in there. not too much to rant about this amp

AS always, depends on what you play and what you want to use it for. I'd go for the Twin if I wanted a really clean amp (6L6s) and the AC30 if I wanted something rockier (ELs). :D

Twin Reverb.

'Have a decent-ish AC30 model on the old Vetta and veritably never use it.

The Twin is loud and heavy and so is the AC30. I have a 100 watt 76 Twin that sits in a closet. 20 watts is really all I ever use anymore. The Twin is way overkill and like a previous poster said, forget about early breakup. The AC 30's are really loud too. You really need to try them both side by side and see which one rings your chimes. Personally for Vox I'd go either AC15 or a Night Train. The new Egnater Tweaker is pretty cool and has sort of a Brit voicing. I have an Egnater Rebel 20 and it runs both 6V6 and El84 power tubes and you can mix them which is pretty cool. Fender, I'd go woth a DRRI or Super Reverb. It really hinges on how much headroom you want or need.

Funny thing is The Beatles actually hated the Super Beatles and really didn't like their name connected with them.

They were the Thomas stacks , I think the Beatles only used them a few times at shows.

Answer to the question, get and old AC30.

True, but a lot of others used them, and sounded pretty good. Don't forget that was 40+ years ago. Amps and electronics in general have come a long way.

Yeah I know, I'm a geezer. I played a lot of stuff including Standel. They were pretty decent amps. The first to use JBL speakers.

I got to try one in the early 70's. Scary loud, but not really all that great. I couldn't justify something that big and loud at the time. The built in fuzz was pretty cool. Besides, I didn't have a car yet. I wish I kept half the stuff I sold.
