There's really good music that get's ignored because record companies have no Idea how to listen to music, but they're pretty sure they're the only ones that know what music should sound like. And (I think) it's because the Record Company ask the audience what they want, instead of watching them react to what they're given.

For example,A guy in a Bar says, "play me some Skynyrd or Purple" when you play "Sweet Home Alabama" and then "Smoke on the Water" , you get the same Big cheer at the begining, and then the dull headbobbing and sing-a-long reaction. But when you play "On the Hunt" then "Maybe I'm a Leo" instead, you get a surprised, "Wait, I know this song" fallowed by an arm pumping, fist pounding, Scream-A-Long reaction. But when you're forming a Classic rock Bar Band, it's next to impossible to get the rest of the band to stray from the formula. They alwasy say, "But the audience wants to hear Sweet Home Alabama" but the truth is, they want a fresh night out, one that's different from the night they had last night.

Same thing with Record Companies, just on a National scale.

I'm going to skip the artificial boundaries on decades and say

was my favorite ten year period for rock.

I don't listen to music from that era much anymore, however, because there has been such a resurgence of good music in this millennium. But in my heart, that period will always be my favorite, because that was the music that spoke to me when I was young.

I went with primarily the 60's, and I'd have to include a couple of years into the 70's.

The ten years from 1972 to 1982.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

Good choice, 01GT. I'm going to pile on a little and point out that this album also came out in 1970. The soundscape was evolving, and it was definitely a sign of things to come.

I chose the "now" option, since I like a bit of every decade, including today. It just depends on my mood.

I chose the 60s because it included spillage from the developers and giants of early rock and roll as well as being the beginning of progressive rock and some giants leading into the 70s.

It was filled with a musical variety that included a glut of über famous songwriters (King, Loudermilk, Kristofferson, Cash, Spector, Gordie, Wilson, Lennon, Jones, and more), plenty of duos (like the Everlys, the Righteous Bros., Sam and Dave, Dick and Dee Dee, etc.), many novelty songs, TV and movie themes, a lot of Jazz including Latino, Surf, R&B from Motor City and Philly, electronic music becoming mainstream, garage bands, British Invasion with high fashion, Blues Rock, Folk and Hippie music with tie dyed shirts, and the introduction of Rock Opera and gigantic concert crowds amongst other things.

Add the 60’s innovations in gear and recordings that have become standards and such. It might be fair to say the times before the 50s was the fertilization of Rock, the 50s the birth, the 60s the growth, the 70s the maturity, The 80s and 90s the celebration, and the 00s the moshing and diversity with the odd Rock without the roll, the odd roll without the rock, and the odd. Today the good is very good and I like it. The bad is very bad and I hate it! It has always been that way and always will be.

Is it all Rock ‘N Roll? I dunno. Ask Little Richard.

I said 70s, but my favorite years span from around 1964-1994.

I voted 70's, because most of my favorite music was from the late 60's into the mid to upper 70's (Lynyrd Skynyrd comes to mind)...however; I've never in my life had more fun than I did in the 80's during the "Hair Band" craze...but that is just because of my age I believe (High School years).
Imagine having Beastie Boy's 'You gotta fight, for your right, to party' as your class song (Class of 85'). LOL!
