Hi Alan: I never even heard of them before. Those prices are ridiculously low. Good grief! Thanks for the headsup - noted and bookmarked.

Any idea where in the country they are? The name IronGear immediately puts Irn-Bru into my mind and so makes me think of your neck of the woods. I wonder?

BTW. This is as good a place as any to ask. Anyone on our side of the pond have any experience of Wizard Pickups? More expensive, but still not over the top. I've never tried 'em but I may have a use for their custom build service sometime. I'm thinking about a set of three P90s built to particular specs...

Info, anyone?

Cheers - C

Why not - the sun's over the yardarm, after all. :D

Rock the casbah! 8)

Thanks again for the link. I love adding to my list of makers. BareKnuckle are nice - but SO expensive...

Cheers - C

8) thats better :D well with these blues engine pups and my vintage wiring kit with pio caps if this lp never had epi on the headstock you would swear it was a gibby , as stated the pups aren't as hot as the epi's but they more than make up for that in clarity , i'm well impressed with these chaps (they are the flagship range ) i really need to bin the electrics on the sg400 now and i might get a set of rolling mill for the sg , cheap as chips :D . ceri , for the outlay you will not be disapointed with these at all mate :) i need to get niki to try a set out , he has an ear for such things :)

I tried wizard before I settled on BareKnuckles. Their on a par with bareknuckles quality wise. I tried a LP with a Infinity pickup in it. Good even response across the strings, plenty of output and attack. I didnt buy a set of strat pickups from them, they just didnt do what I wanted. The nearest I could get was a set of their Mayer copies. I'm not having anything to do with him on my guitar (aint I childish). They were trying to push me towards the make a rosewood board sound like a maple board set. That conversation didnt go far either.

Very helpfull people though. If they did what I wanted for the guitar in question (namely a pickup that excells at clean and doesnt do much else), I'd have gone to them.

Theres a few of their demo's on youtube too. Here's their demo of the Revelation strat set.

I didnt even consider the IronGear range to my folly. The PigIron's look well worth a go for £19 each.

Thanks Nick, that's very useful regarding Wizard.

And I agree with Alan: be most curious to see what your ears make of these Iron-Bru - oops, I mean IronGear pickups. Your ears carry a high reputation in these parts! :D

well after another hour or so of playing with the lp i'll deffo be trying out some of thier other pups :) , i turned the gain down from it's usual 10 on the marshall to 2 and m/v at 2 as well , WOW play a chord and you can hear subtle harmonics playing about in the sound , i ended up playing like this for about 15 mins (this is unheard of :) usually the 800 is dialed to 10 , except the m/v ) i think i'm going to be playing about with these pups for quite some time , and having a great time doing it 8)

Hi stratobobster: bless my socks, is that the same company? Or just a retailer who stocks IronGear pickups?

Useful either way. Thanks! :D

I found the Axetec fellow on a forum where he was talking about making the pickups ands saying the price relects the fact that they are not hand wound.

Lots of other goodies on the site, no? :D

Where would a place like "Kendal Cumbria" be located? Sounds pretty rustic. Maybe the British equivalent of Muleshoe, TX. :)

Hi again stratoBobster: Kendal is in the county of Cumbria, a region in the North-West of England known as the Lake District. A national park. Rustic, as you say, and very pretty:

More pix and info here:

Kendal is also the home of the world famous (they think) Kendal Mint Cake:

So now ya know...!!!

Ceri, The picture and links you provided were both beautiful an informative. I do withdraw any comparisons between Muleshoe and the Kendal area.

Well... "rustic" has a little harsher meaning locally, here in Texas. I could try to dress it up a bit, but the picture here represents something close to the truth:

I really wanted to find something to match-up with the Kendal Mint Cake. I am pretty sure nothing from Muleshoe has been up to Mt. Everest...I did find that Muleshoe has a bunny show, I guess I will go with that:
