It's a harp guitar, it's name is " The Picasso " and it was built by the luthier Linda Manzer. Very well renowned luthier.
Check out her website and wish.
I think the wait list for one of her instruments is about two years if it isn't closed right now.

I can see why Linda Manzer has such a waiting list, her instruments are amazing creations ,she's probably the most innovative luthier on the planet. Not only are her instruments multifunctional but the sound quality and playability are beyond that of many popular luthiers.

Outside of the six string acoustic bottom I have a headache just looking at it.

Haha, yes, my very first concert I ever went to was the Gary Burton Quartet, but we all(me, my mom, and my grandma--three generations of Metheny-lovers) went really just to see Pat. :P

About halfway through their set, Pat brought out his Picasso, and, needless to say, it was one of the most amazing things I've ever seen and heard. Mom snuck some pictures of him playing it, too. :D

That wood must be EXTREMELY reinforced to support the tension of all those strings.... I've always been amazed by that. :P

The Pikasso guitar - I love it! More here: http://guitarstringguide.com/drupal/con ... ng-pikasso

Presumably called Pikasso to save being sued by the Picasso estate. :?

Very true. She's purported to have built -- subjectively, of course -- some of the very best dreadnoughts of all time. And some very, very strange instruments as well.
