When I was in high school I learned to play classical guitar...just wondering if there are many classical players on the forum?

I would love to play classical guitar but I just can't get finger picking down despite playing guitar over 40 yrs.I have quite a few CDs by Segovia, Romero,Fisk and many others but being able to get my right hand working has always escaped me.

I also dabble as I occasionally play with my friends Latin band when he needs me so a lot of classical and Spanish comes out then but I broke my fingers on my picking hand a while back and finger-picking has been a strain ever since so I'm left using a pick which takes away from half of it. It just doesn't sound as good with all those notes missing.

Whenever I'm not jamming with a band or friends, I'm in my room practicing various classical pieces and working on my fingerpicking technique ^^

I have a university degree in music. I was a classical guitar major and won several awards in music theory and musicology. I urge all my students to study a bit of classical no matter what style they are interested in. In fact two of my students have played in competitive classes at music festivals and have won for a few years in a row. My classical students all participate in Royal Conservatory examinations in practical, theory and music history. I am very proud of them.

I am not a music snob in any way. I value all styles of music and promote studies in any area my students choose. I gig with several local rock acts
and enjoy it immensely. Music of any style..............is music.

I dabble in it. That was my first guitar. It's a Yamaha Eterna, and I just looooove the sound of it. I'm trying to do picking.

I started learning all the basic chords on an old classical guitar my girlfriend had laying around her house. Ultimately I would like to become a decent classical guitar player because 60% of the music I play is in Spanish and most of it incorporates Spanish style or true classical guitar.

I was primarily a flamenco player for fifteen years or so, always with a little classical on the side. I've always wanted to be able to play Bach's Chaconne in D minor (for solo violin) the way I feel it should be treated, but the last time I could get through the whole piece was ten years ago, and then it was only certain passages that I could really do justice to... or so I thought. These days, I'd probably be quite impressed with my former self. Heh. I must have practiced that every night for at least a year... good times! Still, vita brevis, ars longa and all that (I hope that means "life is short, art is"... erm... "long"), and it'll still be waiting for me when I'm at the other end of my life with (hopefully) some time and (even more hopefully) my faculties intact.

These days I've decided to go mostly plectrum-free on my Strat so I can keep some semblance of my flamenco chops going, but I'm looking forward to fashioning some space somewhere in my house where I can get back to some loud acoustic music. Presently there are rather too many kids underfoot.

played classical guitar in college, a class for credit and in the string ensemble also for college credit, the string ensemble was fun although I can't remember the classical pieces we played (it was a long long time ago) if you get the chance to join an ensemble, do, you will like it.

I studied classical guitar from about age 15 to 19. (I am now 50). I did some student recitals at the Philadelphia Classical Guitar Society. I progressed pretty well at that point in my life.

I still have that guitar, an Aria made in Japan. I am most comfortable with classical guitar, even though I forget most of the pieces I had memorized when I was a teen. Playing with my fingers feels much more natural to me than using a pick.

I really love playing classical guitar.

However, earlier this year I bought my first electric guitar, an Epiphone Dot, which I really, really enjoy. It is a lot of fun, playing it through a Fender Vibro Champ XD.

Here is my ~35 year old classical guitar
