I've been reading threads lately where people are looking for attenuators. Fluxtone has come out with an attenuator/speaker combo that operates differently from most by controlling the volume at the speaker itself. The Fluxtone uses a "variable magnet technology"that presumably gives 25db of volume reduction without affecting the tone of the signal. They use a variable electro-magnet to acheive this. You can check out a demo at this link: www.guitarplayer.com/june2010 or check out the company website at : www.fluxtone-speakers.com .The attenuator/cab set up is $1,350 but apparently you can can use it on any amp up to 50W,the speaker, which is based on a Celestion Vintage 30,and the attenuator alone are$750.They also make 10 and 12"versions of other popular speakers.

Wow! Those Fluxtone prices are high. I wonder how this compares to Eminence's new speaker/attenuator http://eminence.com/fdm.asp which will more than like be cheaper.

I think I'll keep using my powerbrake with any amp/speaker/combo combination and not change speakers every time I want a bit of attenuation.

Seems a silly idea to me, never mind the price.
