Between the dogs, the old retired guy who is almost always home (me), and the alarm system... there's not much chance anyone is getting into this house and not be noticed. Pity the fool that gets in with only the dogs here and nobody to stop them!

If I'm home... well... there's really nothing in this house worth dying for... but that's the price.

Ha:P love these stories :D but my case is i have 2 Massive German Shepherds and a good security system atm, But thats only because i live with my Grand parents in a nice Solid Victorian with folks who are security mad ha:P but im 18 and moving out soon :/ not looking forward to this again.
When i lived in my flat with a friend he left our door on the latch...IDIOT!
I lost my $@! Strat and my Amp(roland micro cube) the amp was an affordable thing so i wasnt too worried but the Strat...Couldn't get anything insurance wise because it was down to neglegence on our (HIS!) part.

If anyone recognises my name then Yes! that was the guitar i spent months cooing about and talking bout how excited i was to be buying one soon...had it for 6 weeks.

I leave my overly territorial German Shepherd in the house whenever I go anywhere. The guitars that I would least want to loose are my 65 Strat and my 1965 John Lennon Casino. Many years ago when I was in the middle of moving we had a break in.All that was left in the house was a pair of cheap speakers,a $70 Raven acoustic and my 63 Hagstrom Corvette-one of less than 1,500 made in a 3 yr.period-they took the Raven and the speakers and left the Hagstrom. To this day I can't figure out why they left it unless they figured they'd have to go through the trouble of robbing an amp.

I caught some oik trying to nick the kid over the backs motorbike two weeks ago. Gave him a kicking and left him in the gutter. There haven't been any more breakins or thefts round here since. Which aint bad going here.

As far as my guitars go, I hide em. Not telling you where. I take my no1 with me usually. Well you never know what may happen. I usually keep a couple at my drummers house along with a amp. That place is like fort knox.

My drummer is well, how do we say COMPLETELY #$@*&!% NUTS he plans for the zombie apocalypse with 100% seriousness, he has a stockpile of guns and electric razor wire fences all around his ten acre property along with about 4 locks on his front door and about 6 on his back door. so needless to say i keep some of my nice stuff over there

Break ins?
Not good.
But thats why I have a security system and guns. It's a shi5ty reality.
I would be a mess honestly If I lost my guitars.
It would *****ing Suck. simple.
I have given a few to friends who didn't have guitars (from bad times, wanted to learn etc..), I am sure they would return the favor.

My house has a security system. Are there any other basic methods I can use to protect my instruments? Right now my cases are simply stacked vertically in my closet.

Get a dog. Preferably, one known as a capable guard/attack dog. Ankle biters don't scare many burglars away... Rotties... well, they get MY attention!

 8)

Absolutely................................ not.

I went visiting at a friend's house quite a few years back and he had guests staying with him at the time. In the kitchen there was a rather large Rottie who sat and stared into my eyes as I made my way about. Very unnerving. The trick is to avoid eye contact with those animals.

Your as well off with a gang of cats than a big dog, if you could get any glimmer of pack loyalty out of a cat.

Never met a dog I'm scared of, I've met a few downright vicious cats that had no fear of man or God.

Dogs are completely subserviant creatures, guard dogs especialy. Thats the reason why you can train them. Any dog that cant be trained, not stubborn dogs, the absolute red eyed insane things, are no use. Unfortunately to train a good attack dog for the military or police you run very close to driving them to insanity.

My dogs purely a pet. Soft as hell, I've never seen him be nasty to any other living creature. We get trouble at the door and he looks to me to sort it out. After all in his opinion I'm top dog.

I don't think my dog would be very good against a burglar. He would bark, snort, growl, and lunge at the door if you were on the other side, but if you got past the door. He'd be running under the table. All talk.

Would you be scared of him if you were a burglar?

No.

Didn't think so.
