Thanks to a severe, violent and sociopathic reaction I had to The Carpenters about 19 years ago, I avoid them like the plague and for the sake of caution I stick to what's on my iPod.

Another thing that turns me from AM/FM stations is the inane vacuous banter that they get on with and the way they feel they have talk through the intro of a song 'til the singing starts, that simply drives me.

Love the Stones, but when "Shattered" comes on I turn it.

Those "live" ads on breakfast radio where they just happen to be talking about a product we might want to try. Political announcements - doesn't matter which party (why are they called parties - they're full of joyless, boring gits).

+1 on banter so inane, insincere, insulting and annoying that you want to throttle the 'radio personality' - a classic oxymoron, about classic morons :!:

Can't stand hearing "Takin' Care of Business" by BTO. Not that it's even such an awful song, but it's probably the most played-out piece of music of all time. In addition to hearing it way too often on classic rock stations, one of our local AM talk show hosts uses it as his theme song. I'd be okay if I never heard it again.

That "I Had the Time of My Life" song from 'Dirty Dancing' could also stand to go away for a few decades.

The absolute worst song for me is one that was #1 on the charts for 14 weeks straight the year I started college (1971)... Maggie May by Rod Stewart. I cringe at the intro riff!

+1

I would also add "She's So Cold" to my Stones no-play list. 8)

Oh, I'd say about 85% of what is played on the radio nowadays.

In truth I can tolerate most radio. I stuggle with radio 1, I always have even when I was a kid. Even the majority of the stuff John Peel played.

Radio2 is ace though. Bob Harris, Jools Holland, Suzi Quattro, exactly what good rock and roll is all about.

Virgin 1215AM used to be fantastic, its gone downhill a bit lately.

I suppose having the BBC set the bar we dont suffer too much here. There are great shows even on local radio. Yeah ok its all purile drivel from 9-5. From 9pm-6am they seem to improve. I suppose the private station owners hear the junk on radio one and try to copy it for peaktime. They dont have the brains to realize that the poor quality of modern pop is the biggest cause of the decline in sales. They keep trying to blame Blackbeard.
