I've seen several concerts that were absolutely too good to pick a favourite:Roy Buchanan/Pat Metheny double bill,Rory Gallagher,Stevie Ray Vaughn,Howlin' Wolf,Willie Dixon,Marty Stuart.Marty seems like an odd choice but his flat picking on guitar along with Kenny Vaughn is beyond belief.

Yes, Biffy Clyro and Carl Verheyen were all quite good last year.

Ooof where to begin.

Pink Floyd 1994 Tampa FL
Phish at the Coral Sky amphitheater 1996 i think it was
Roger Waters in 99
The Last Iron Maiden tour was phenomenal.
They Might Be Giants in 1992 was a fun show

Would have loved to have been in my teens or 20s in the 70s as i am much more into that era of Prog rock but alas... i was not.

Posted this before but what the fekk, I'll play along. Been to many but the ones that stand out are the ones when I was a kid or teenager or in my early 20's. I guess I was less of a critic back then and everything seemed more impossible:

Some that stand out:

1. Guns N' Roses 91
2. Izzy Stradlin and the Ju Ju Hounds 92
3. Springsteen 08 (one of the few recent ones)
4. Jethro Tull 93 (I love Martin Barre, saw then again when I was 20)
5. Clapton (w/Robert Randolph opening) 05 (I think, maybe 04?)
6. Manic Street Preachers 01 (Reading Festival)

Wow, that blows my mind ... I saw saw CSN about ten years ago for $35 in the SF Bay area, and the place was half empty. They did not sound very good, and the show was less than 90 min long. And the Moody Blues ... who I am a big fan of, I am surprrised by your $225 tickets. Is that Vegas where all tickets are priced ridiculously high?? I have seen the Moodies numerous times dating back the Long Distance Voyager tour, but the last time I saw them was -- also in the '90s -- at a county fair for $10 or something. How they mighty had fallen ... but it looks like things have changed for them based on your post.

Added: Oh, just today I picked up tickets for Rush at the brand new Pittsbugh Penguins hockey arena. $80 for TWO tickets overlooking the stage (row A on the 2nd level, just to the side of the stage on Alex Lifeson's side, no less. What a bargain, evidently ... )

The Hard Rock Orlando is not a very big venue, and we had great seats so I didn't really mind $125 apiece, but $225 for CSN at the King Center??? I wouldn't have paid that much to have them pick us up in their limo!

Probably the most memorable was Wayne Cochran (on a come back tour) back in 1970. He was at an upstate NY bar called Four Acres ... a total "top 40" bar ... so I don't really know why to this day they booked him there. But he had a hot 9 piece band and they did Wayne's 60s hits and some pretty gritty more modern blues/rock too.

What made it memorable was that by the end of the first set, virtually all of the audience had walked out. Remember, top 40 crowd and the types who evidently wouldn't even listen to anything they didn't know from the radio no matter how rocking it was. So in the end, I and my girlfriend got what amounted to a private concert. For the second (and final) set, there were the two of us, two guys playing pool, the bartender and the bouncer.

Another good one where many didn't know what they missed was Harry Chapin at Morrisville College around 1973. The Grass Roots had been scheduled and campus auditorium was old out. But they canceled last second and they quickly substituted Chapin. Sad to say, a lot of the audience walked that night when someone announced that your choice was refund or stay. The perhaps 10% of us who chose to stay were all invited up front and got a very great and intimate concert.

Jean Luc Ponte at the Nazareth Arts Center in 1987 (or thereabouts) was great. The Center is small, terrific acoustics and Ponte seemed to realize he was playing for a small (it only seats 150 people) and very appreciative audience.

Probably not every artist would respond to small audiences like that, especially if it was clear that a lot had walked out on purpose. But these turned out to be great shows.

I saw Harry Chapin a couple of times at Banana Fish Park in Brooklyn during the early 70s. Great shows!
