That guy is ignorant!

I love my Standard MIM Strat. My teacher has an Eric Johnson signature and he loves the sound of my guitar. He paid $2500 for his. I got mine on sale for like $280.

Rock on Dude and don't listen to the haters!

Sorry. This just reminds me of some of the narrow minded elitist "Harley" riders I have to deal with on other forums. Their theme... "If you ain't got a Harley, you ain't got... #@&T!"

OK, I'm not really sorry...

It is not my opinion that my guitar is a Fender Stratocaster. Fender labeled it. This is not a difference of opinion. I am stating a fact, not an opinion.

Insulting someone's choice of instrument by saying it is not worthy of the name it bears is a narrow minded elitist position. I just call 'em as I see 'em. We can differ on that opinion if you'd like, but your comments do well to support my claim.

The "Mexicaster" line of products are great quality instruments that fill a market need. That's not in dispute from my point of view.

My opinion regarding their marketing is that they should have been branded differently as is the "Squier by Fender" line of products that are also built in other Countries. I'm sure FMIC made the marketing decision to brand them as "Fender" instruments because let's face it, players want to see the Fender name on the headstock. FMIC has even moved the Made in Mexico sticker to the back of the headstock so that it's less obvious (but really there isn't any social stigma attached to owning an MIM).

I'm not a "MIA only" player myself. Three of my guitars are MIA Fenders, but I also own a "Heartfield by Fender" Talon that was made in Japan, and an Epiphone Prophecy EX that was made in China.

If my opinion on FMIC's marketing practices brings your "instrument insecurities" to the surface, hurts your feelings, and makes you feel insulted, that is more your issue than mine.

Gentlemen. Both of you are nice, cool fellas whose posts I for one always read with pleasure. I cannot believe you are going to argue and fall out over this silly, silly issue.

Tell ya what. My Fred Perry polo shirts perform better than my Ralph Lauren ones. There, I said it.

Now everyone can shout at me over that instead. :D

(I notice they are all made in third countries, so...)

I am good with letting this little disagreement drop right here as I am sure Mr. Thorn is as well. We don't have to agree, we only have to get along. :D I am not the least angry. I too enjoy Mr. Thorn's posts. 8)

Not all players buy guitars strictly for the snob appeal or country of origin. I depend solely on how the guitar sounds ,performs and feels and price really doesn't really play into it.I've tested guitars quite willing to pay up to $2,500 for one I liked and settled on one that was much cheaper, not because of the price but because it met the criteria I want in a guitar.I don't care what the headstock says,it could be a $150 MIC Walmartocaster,if it had what I wanted in a guitar then I'd buy it.Only poseurs are into the business of where a guitar is made and what's on the headstock.A Toyota made in Ontario,Canada is still 100% Toyota and the same goes for guitars no matter what the brand.

Not angry here Fellas, just expressing an opinion (apologies all around if it came across as an angry post).

While the MIA's are great, there's nothing wrong with the MIM's. Mine's a MIM and the sound is awesome. My other bandmate has two MIJ's. I can't really tell the difference. We all have different amps, different modding. We bought a Fender, it's a Fender. As a lefty, it's a huge difference between $350-$450 for an MIM, than $1000 for an MIA. I can put in new wiring and pickups for less than the difference.
