I guess 99.9% of members don't know the name but everyone has heard his playing.Chris Britton was the lead/rhythm guitarist of the Troggs and both he and Pete Townshend have influenced my hard string bashing rhythm playing style. His guitar on I Can't Control Myself,Girl In Black, I Want You make Wild Thing sound subdued.Anyone who hears or sees my rhythm playing would have no trouble seeing the Britton influence of chugging string muting of course besides Britton and Townshend John Lennon was a huge influence on more standard tunes.Anyone else Britton fans or influenced by him?

I dont want to see your post die without comment. That really sucks when it happens. Hey, of course I've heard his music, but I've never given them a fair listen.

How long were the Troggs a unit? They must've got a little money off of that Charlie Sheen movie, eh?

Thanks for being the "Lone Responder",the Troggs formed circa 64-65 and packed it in around 70.Reg Presley(the lead singer) has made several short-lived attempts at comebacks but with mostly non-original members.

The Troggs, yeah, I've been thinking and I can't honestly remember this guy but the Troggs were a highly regarded band in the UK back in the sixties. We were all playing 'Wild Thing' after we heard it.
I can remember Reg Presley in a interview once, recalling, they had recorded and just released 'Wild Thing' and he was working on a building site, when he heard it on the radio and the DJ enthusing that it had rocketed up the charts. So he threw down his trowel and shouted " That's it!! I'm outa here, I've just hit the big time " and promptly walked off the site and into his new life.
Ha ha it must have been a nice feeling for him, a dream for the rest of us eh?
He was the coolest dude around on stage at that time. I can remember someone on tv commenting ' He makes Bing Crosby look like a nervous wreck ' he really was a layed back character.
Yeah, the Troggs, they did some good stuff. 8)

Hey Litenin, how you doin' I've been trying to think of the title of another Troggs tune that we used to play back in the day.
The other guitarist in the band used a violin bow on it and I can remember trying to hit some very high vocal notes, backing our singer ( needed a ladder to reach 'em  )
I think I've got it ' Anyway That You Want Me ' is that right?
Yeah, I think it is. Nice tune.
Anyway, look after yourself Litenin' keep rockin' 8)

Speaking of old set list, all the local bands in my neck of the woods played at least "Wild Thing" and Louie Louie by the Kingsmen. Did y'all play Louie Louie across the pond?

BTW All is good on this end!! I've been a little disappointed in the arguing that's been around the forum lately but it comes and goes. We need to keep our reputation as a friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful forum. Just needed to say that. I know it's off topic but....... :?

Great to talk to you too my friend. Take care.

Funny thing, I've been thinking that myself for quite a while now, the forum does tend to get quite aggessive these days and a lot of the old regular members don't post as often as they did. Maybe I have got caught up in it myself occasionaly, I'm not sure on that but if so I certainly never intended to offend anyone and would never want to do that. Maybe I don't always put things correctly and the written word isn't always what I'm thinking. However as you rightly state, the forum as always had the reputation for being friendly and approachable for everyone and we should work hard and endeavour to keep it that way.
Good point and probably deserves a thread of it's own.

Anyway, the other matter, Yes we certainly did play Louie Louie and I got the solo on that one, I used the top half of a mic stand for a slide in parts of it. Yeah, had a lot of fun with that.
Great days, ah!! where did they go.

You're right Rhumba Any Way You Want Me was one of their ballads. The Troggs did several excellent ballads such as You Can Cry If You Want To ,Love Is All Around as already mentioned and Night Of The Long Grass and Little Girl. The last 2 songs mentioned were banned from airplay in some places, the former for suggestive lyrics and the latter because it dealt with unwed teen pregnancy.I Can't Control Myself was also banned in some places due to suggestive lyrics..."I can't stand still 'cause you got me goin',Your're slacks are low and your hips are showin'...somewhat mild by today's standards but downright filth to some censors back in 1966. Reg Presley is heavily involved with the promotion of some kind of gold compound that's supposed to do wonderful things,I forget what exactly but I read it on either Wikipedia or his own website,it's really far out stuff but pretty interesting.

Right guitslinger, a lot of the banned stuff from them days sound somewhat lightweight now, however, I was only talking on this subject a few days ago with a friend of mine.
It can swing both ways when you consider the old times. In a lot of respects it was very innocent, when you think of some of the songs and their lyrics we were singing.
Remember 'Good Morning Little Schoolgirl' thinking about the lyrics in that, I wonder whether we would get away with that one now.
'Good morning little schoolgirl, can I take you home with me' huh? Lots of others as well if you look into it I guess.
Times have changed. I was playing in groups when I was 13 years old (1963) and it would need a different thread to talk of all the sharks and general weirdo's we had to fight off. Really, I've met them all.
Anyway rock on man. 8)
