The Classics IV reformed in the mid 70s with some added members and became The Atlanta Rythym Section and had a hit with a remake of Spooky and also had another hit in the late 70s with So Into You.Status Quo were a lot bigger in the UK than North America and had several hits there.Scott MacKenzie wrote several songs for The Mamas and Papas and joined them briefly in the 80s for a remake of the group with MacKenzie Phillipps taking the place of Cass Elliott,as a matter of fact I think that MacKenzie Phillipps is named after Scott.

Yep, this thread prompted me to ask in another thread (Funky Chords) if anyone knew what chords the Atlanta Rhythm Section was using in "Spooky". They are uncommon to me! I liked both versions: the original had the best vocals w/ Dennis Yost (who I believe is deceased), but the instrumental portion of the Atlanta Rhythm Section's version bested the Classics IV IMO.

Also, I thought I read that John Phillips wrote "If You're Going To San Francisco" for Scott McKenzie. For sure, there was a strong connection. Interesting about the daughter's name...I never gave that a thought.

 Dylan had a couple of sons that did something, I think. Not sure...

Mungo Jerry was hyped as blowing the Grateful Dead off the stage! I hope they fired their PR firm. :D

If I remember correctly, Shocking Blue is from a Scandinavian country and does not speak English.

Hi RVM lead the main chords of Spooky are Em7 in an Am7 formation on the 7th fret and an A6 barre on the 5th fret then at the end of the verse you go to a B7.

Some years back I found the following on the internet: Em7,A7/6,Bbdim7, and B7. These seemed to follow closely the Classics IV version and when jamming with someone, I'd tell them the 'simplified' version of all 7th chords (Em7,A7,Bb7,B7) which sounded OK. Recently I've been playing with some other guys and they tell me both are wrong for the Atlanta Rhythm Section version, yet they argue between each other which chords should be played :? One guy keeps calling for a 13th somewhere. I see there are comments on the other thread which I'll have to try.

Thanks for your input...you may have an interest in the other thread (Funky Chords) if you haven't already read it.

One group that I forgot to mention was Smith with their cover of Baby It's You , I thought the Beatles cover was great but the way the girl lead singer belts it out especially the "Baby... It's You" near the end of the song would give a statue goosebumps.

Hi RVM lead me again, there's a site called Chordie that has the chords, lyrics and chord diagrams of songs such as Spooky and other long forgotten gems.I believe the site is www.chordie.com hope that's useful.
