Today I was playing some compilation CDs of 60s hits and there were several groups that had beautiful songs but were never heard from again.
Some I heard or came up with were:Hedgehoppers Anonymous-Good News Week,The Flying Machine-Smile a Little Smile For Me Rosemarie, Marmalade-Reflections of my Life,Every Mother's Son-Come on Down to My Boat,Keith-98.6,? and the Mysterians-96 Tears,The Mojo Men-Sit Down I Think I Love You,Drafi-Marble Breaks and Iron Bends,Dave Dee,Dozy, Beaky,Mick and Titch-Bend It,The American Breed-Bend Me Shape Me. I'm sure there are many that I can't think of off the top of my head.Anyone Know of any more or where they are now?I know that Drafi was big in Germany until his death 3or4 yrs ago and that Question Mark is still gigging but as for the others,I don't know. Some of the groups mentioned had other hits in Britain other than North America such as Marmalade with I Have Seen The Rain and Cousin Norman. So how's everyone's musical memory?

"You Were On My Mind" the Wee Five

"Love Grows Where My Rosemarie Goes" by Edison Lighthouse

"When A Man Loves A Woman" Percy Sledge

"A Lover's Concerto" the Toys

"Those Were The Days My Friend" Mary Hopkins

"If You're Going To San Francisco" Scott McKenzie

Some of these may not qualify as true one-hit-wonders as the artists may have had other minor hits, but I can't name any other hits by any of them.

These songs came out of a favorite era of songs for me.

The Classics IV had several other big hits: "Stormy" and ""Spooky". I Loved all three!

Honeybus - I Can't Let Maggie Go

Back in the mid sixties, 64/65 ish, a group played in our cellar club in Rochdale, they were called Dean Ford and the Gaylords and I recall they were very good. If I remember right, they had come down from Scotland. Later on they changed their name to Marmalade and had quite a few hits in the UK.

Just to test the ole mind (no internet searches, I promise).

I believe you will find that Wayne Fontana was recorded on Fontana Records. His dad owned the company. The Mindbenders name come from a sci-fi movie. Something about a flying saucer that landed. There was a long drill used by the aliens to "bend" your mind.

The Classics IV reformed in the mid 70s with some added members and became The Atlanta Rythym Section and had a hit with a remake of Spooky and also had another hit in the late 70s with So Into You.Status Quo were a lot bigger in the UK than North America and had several hits there.Scott MacKenzie wrote several songs for The Mamas and Papas and joined them briefly in the 80s for a remake of the group with MacKenzie Phillipps taking the place of Cass Elliott,as a matter of fact I think that MacKenzie Phillipps is named after Scott.

not to be a nitpicker- but didn't they also do "a groovy kind of love"?- i guess that makes them a 2-hit wonder :D

While the 1962 list is "one and done", the songs from '63 and '64 have been covered a few times, but these were the first go 'round.
