Well Guys and Gals,

I was at a 4 way stop earlier today waiting for my time to go. When my time comes, I am about to go, take my foot off the brake. In the corner of my left eye, I see a car starting to move in the intersection, so I stop before my front end gets to the pole of the stop sign. Out of nowhere I am rear-ended. This lady must have been doing 25 to 30 MPH.

Long story short, my left shoulder (where my seatbelt lays) is in a lot of pain and my neck hurts. I know it is just bruised and a slight case of whiplash. I do not think I will be playing guitar for the next few days.

I am dreading tomorrow, it will either be feeling better or a lot worse. It is the worse part I fear.

Rk: Not much to say to you professionally. You know what the story is. They're a $@!&* not only during the acute period, but long term. I don't know how you feel about legal representation, but have it, and have it now. Document everything. My wife, a personal injury and med mal attorney for twenty years was a victim of such an event herself, while she was still in practice. Frozen shoulder, knee damage which ultimately led to a TKA last August after 15 years, and persistent, chronic neck pain. Soft tissue injuries are nearly impossible to document with clincial objectivity but the sequelae can be a personal hell which cannot be made part of the real life experience of a third party.
I wish you all the best in this.
Doc.

So sorry to hear that! Thats a bad one for sure. Sorry to say but it probably will hurt more tomorrow, just make sure and stay rested with plenty of painkillers on the go.

Get well soon mate!

rkreisher that sounds like a nightmare! I sure hope that you will heal up fast
and that you don't have any ongoing ramifications from the accident.
Take it easy man.

Hopefully it goes away without incident but be careful. As stated above this has the potential to cause long lasting problems. If something is bothering you get it checked now, don't wait. Best wishes and a speedy recovery to you.

At least you can take it easy and be a little indulgent for a few days, but that's no fun any way you look at it.
I hope you heal up fast and happily.

"Document everything."

+1

those types of injuries only get worse with time, do every thing you can now because later is not an option.
Take care Bro.

Their insurance should cover you for some of that--I was in an accident a few years ago that was ruled the other driver's fault--and seeing a Chiropractor helped immensely--and insurance paid for it for a while--I still go, but more for regular maintenance. The visits are less often.

I decided not to pursue legal action against the other driver for a variety of reasons--but if the damage had been greater--I would have.

Don't sign off on your claim no matter how much they try to coerce you to do so. Make sure you leave it open for future problems that may arise. 8)

Thanks for the kind words from all. Still a little sore today, mostly the left shoulder. I am going to see if I can get in to see my doctor on Monday. The pain is not bad this morning; however, I did take some Tylenol, Motrin, and a Flexeril last night for the pain and muscle stiffness. Hopefullly I do not get too sore over the next few days. I did soak in a warm bath last night as well to relax.

Here are some pics of the car. Excuse the quality, I was walking and taking pics with my phone at the same time, trying not to let the other driver know what I was doing. I have a pic of their front end as well, but the damage to that vehicle was not as severe.

Car is in the shop for now, awaiting the claims adjusters from both insurance company's representatives to evaluate. As of right now, I do not plan on getting anything out of this case except my car to be fixed.

That's funny, I played Whiplash on my MP3 player last night. It was the only song going through my head after the accident. It was hard not to head bang, but thought it would not help my shoulder and neck too much if I did.

Thanks for the link...not sure about compensation as of yet, it depends on what my passenger (mother-in-law) decides to do. Her right shoulder and lower back is what is hurting her.

Glad to hear you are not in the pain you were worried about yesterday! I hate to see this kind of thing. I think that in some ways technology has really been a hindrance to us when we drive! It wouldn't surprise me if she was texting/talking on the phone. Hope everything works out for you. Remember to ice it too. It will help keep the swelling down.

I RK: so sympathetic towards you over this. I wish you the very best for a full and swift recovery.

It reflects well on you that you don't have punitive intentions. Do begin a process of medical inspection under your / their insurance at the outset, though. If you recover fully with no lasting problems then great. But if there are difficulties, perhaps far down the line, it will be much easier to proceed with if you started the process now, rather than later.

Best of luck to you and the mother-in-law - C
