A similar thing has recently happened to me. The Belfast Guitar Emporium closed last month. These guys were great, they had separate rooms for trying out gear extensively, didn't even mind if you brought beer and went in to write. They also used to lend my band amps without even taking a deposit, we're talkin 60's Twins here. They also provided us with free strings cos we we good customers, now I'm back to buying them. Things like picks were also free.

These guys were great and had the best knowledge goin in the city. Top notch techs, amazing fret work and low prices on things like amp maintenance.

Great place and sadly missed. Now we have to find new guys we can trust and it's slim pickin's.

Such a pity mate. Hope you get sorted. Thankfully we don't have Guitar Center here. One of the things I don't miss about the States. Hate the place.

Well lite I have seen you play and for a young guy you are very talented so I would stay with the teacher who got you where you are at and that you are most comfortable. Then maybe you could ask him who to take your ax to and he could introduce you so they take care of you. I know it is a huge bummer and I thank God I have always had two small stores to hangout in but Sam Ash put one out of business but the other one has been here for 80 years and is 3 generations old and is not going anywhere in my lifetime.

Ash,
Sorry to hear that my friend. if I may offer some help, get Paul Balmer's new book "The Fender Telecaster Handbook" it goes from soup to nuts in maintenance etc. This will at least save you from worrying about finding a good Tech. You can do it yourself. Hope that this helps in some small way.

For quality luthier work you might try Atomic Guitars over in Peoria. One of the owners, Tim Mulqueeny, co-owned another shop in Phoenix with my personal luthier for some 24 years and they had quite a clientele.

I'll second Jason's recommendation of Guitar Electronics. That's usually where I take my guitars and it's the only place I take my amps.

I also trust the guitar tech at the Scottsdale Guitar Center. Adam is excellent.

the internet shopping thing is killing off all these great music stores , years ago if you needed a bridge or anything else you went to the shop , if they didn't have it , they ordered it in for you , now you just look the part up and order it online , this is whats causing the shops to close down , so spare a thought and order things now and then from your local music store :)[/b]

Your lucky, atlest you have (well, had) a guitar shop.

i'm still in the same situation now with the tutors, my old one has quit cause he was to busy, now I've gotta pick between this other awesome guy that I've jammed with at school a couple of times, or some other person I dont know :?
But really, I've watched a couple of your videos, and dont you think you ready to go on your own?? I mean, without a tutor?

Which guitar shop is closing down ? I am in Phoenix...

Guitar electronics at I17 and dunlap (as previously stated) is the best... They have done fret work on my es335 and my MIJ strat and in both cases I have been floored how they got the playability of my guitar in shape...

I do all my electronic work myself... So, I cannot vouch for their electronic work.. But I am sure its really good...
