They banned smoking in bars here years ago but you'll always see a group of patrons stood up outside the door having a puff. They have gone too far with it here altogether, they've even banned smoking in bars with huge outdoor decks and at outdoor events where there is a large cordoned off area outside the beer tent.I'm a smoker but I agree with an indoor ban but banning it outside is a bit too much.

The world is changing. It's moving toward a healthy, eco-friendly, smoke free world. I am not a smoker, I don't preach to quit smoking but I can't stand the smell or having to second hand smoke two packs a night when out. I think bars and pubs are doing a good job of putting up tents with heaters, etc to accomodate. I love that bars are smoke free. I know a bunch of smokers who are avid smokers that acutally like it because they don't like smelling as bad or having to sit in it all night when they aren't having one. Anyways, I just see the smoking ban going to every state and country.

Smoking in bars is banned in my corner of the world and I don't smoke now anyway. However, I can never complain because I was once one of the worst offenders.

Not just bars though as I said in my previous post I'll stop smoking at outdoor train stops when their trains stop pumping diesel into my face and I'll stop smoking in the street when they take care of cars. Until then they can politely go and $@!& themselves.

I agree Celtic. I'm not a fan of sitting behind a semi truck or the train either. That was kind of my point is that cars are going hybrid, bags of chips are now put in bags made of corn so they are biodegradable, etc.

I do see a lot of people using that smokeless tobacco thing at the bars. I asked a guy if he liked it and he said it was a pretty decent substitue and after the initial investment he's actually saving money.

I know what you mean goose. I will quit one day, I'm 28 and always told myself I'd knock it by 35 plus I smoke roll-ups which I roll very thin and only have 3 or 4 a day unless I'm on the booze. I also don't smoke in my house or anyone else's for that matter.

But here in the UK it's beyond ridiculous and agree with my fellow Brit Nikininja about how they have just went the wrong way about things and done things in the wrong order. Scotland at least have electric trains. All over Northern Ireland it's diesel and I just can't fathom how they can tell you not to smoke at an outdoor train stop when they are running on diesel.

The only thing that smells worse than smoke and diesel is hypocrisy.

I hate it here in NY that you cannot smoke anywhere they are even trying to have it that people who live in apartments will not be able to smoke. Meanwhile Mayor Bloomberg who started this nonsense goes and smokes his cigars in cigar bars and says it is all about peoples health. Smokes here are now $10 a pack which is just ridicules.

On the flipside in a way I am glad all this is going down and that they pump into the heads of the young just how bad smoking is. My sons constantly preach to me about quiting and the only thing I would hate to hear is one day them yelling that they told me to quit. A lot of us who grew up in the era of the Marlboro man who by the way died of cancer did not know better. But I used to be able to quit anytime I wanted but now the older I get the harder it is.

Yup, it was in NYC that I first experienced it when I was living over there. I hated it as this was my first experience of a ban. I even went to a rally at City Hall when I was there to protest.

I know a couple of bars in Manhattan though where we had a few a lock ins and smoked up. Used to sneak one in the toilets of CBGB's too, no one seemed to mind.

CC,
How do you really feel my brother???...LOL I hear you! As a non smoker, I appreciate not having to breathe in the smoke, but I feel that they should have a ventilated room where smokers could go have a smoke and then be back in the main room. My wife used to be a smoker and I hated how when we were in Manhattan she had to step out for a smoke. Plus...it is kind of cool the image playing out in a smoke filled bar late at night and magic happens on stage..:)

 @ ABS. It just stinks of hypocrisy to me. I do miss that magic smoke and light thing too bro. Smoke machines just don't cut it. Not risky enough for rock n' roll IMO.
