If you want to call it that. I got this in an email and am just sharing it... not promoting it. I gain nothing by telling you all about this.

FYE is running a promotion... if you enter a contest to win tickets to the AP Tour you get to download a bunch of tunes. Not my favorite kind of pop stuff (it all sounds the same these days) but hey... it's free. 20 songs in all... 222MB total unzipped, mostly mp3's but there's a couple AIFF and a couple m4a.

Here's a link. http://www.altpress.com/contests/FYE-AP-Tour-Tix.htm

Enjoy! 8)

Not when you play professionally like me mate, I've got bills and rent to pay!! If you buy me all my gear and pay my bills then I'll gladly give you my music for 'free'.

Another good source of "free" music is spotify http://www.spotify.com/uk/1/
You can listen to the songs but you have to listen to adds every now and then between tracks and the artists get payed from the money made from advertising.

Does it let you download or just play like Pandora?

Downloading without paying or consent of the artist is theft and is no different from walking into HMV and shoplifting.

Artists need to make a living and also fund future music.

I think the people running the contest that the OP was talking about probably pay for the downloads.

Oh I know that Tochai, just voicing my view to the other poster who thinks all music should be free. There wouldn't be ANY music if that was the case.

I'm all for budding artists getting it out there though. Good luck.

I agree with C.C. completely, royalities from record sales, publishing and from people who cover their songs are the bread and butter to the artists who write the songs, the pirating of their music is as bad as picking their pockets and robbing their wallets.

Just to be clear... this is not that kind of "free" music. This is a genuine give-away by a company doing a promotion. Entirely on the up-and-up! 8)
